I like trying new tobaccos. Have found a lot I like. Have also found a lot I don't. I have a good deal of stuff I don't like in my cellar I want to get rid of.
The question is should I type of a list and let members pick a few and send it to them for a couple bucks to cover postage or stick it all in a box and send it to some poor unsuspecting soul and let it be their problem instead of mine?

Most times when you gift things it is on your dime.

The word gift was never brought up in the OP. My game, my rules. If someone doesn't like them, they don't have to play.

I think I would post a list of what you want to part ways with and some options of tobaccos you might trade for, and see if anyone wants to trade. All of us have stuff we bought and don't like. Gotta be some trade options. Everybody wins.

I have done it both ways. I like to offer it up for trade if its something that a lot of people enjoy and the quantity warrants. If it is stuff that is less than an ounce I just ask if anyone wants it. You can always list it as for sale or trade as well. Dumping on the innocent can be both good and bad lol.

You could always type up a list and put it out there for both sale or trade to cover all options. If you'd prefer to just be done with it rather do things piecemeal, selling as a block might be the way to go.

I thought this would be simple. Give away some tobacco, asking for nothing except a couple bucks to help with the shipping because I live on a fixed income.
Those that suggested trading or selling, that wasn't the idea behind this. I simply wanted to do something nice for some acquaintances. I thought people would understand that.
The one individual that found it necessary to inform me how I should do things and the one that wanted me to send it all to him just left me speechless. In my opinion they were both just plain rude.
I obviously made a mistake in doing this and I plan on correcting it.
ATTENTION ANY MODERATOR: PLEASE EITHER CLOSE OR DELETE THIS THREAD POSTHASTE.
In closing, goodbye, perhaps I will see some of you elsewhere.

I guess I was confused by your post and didn't understand what you were asking. I say post the list and ask for a couple of bucks for shipping. No reason to leave, just some confusion is all on our part.

Agreed ... happens all of the time on forums. Also, you DID mention shipping it all to one person as an option so Craig wasn't really out of line at all.
Just post what you want to get rid of and make it clear the shipping is on them ... easy peasy!

Often times we "intend" one thing but actually communicate another. So, take a deep breath, and list out what it is that you want to unload. Who knows, some TAD afflicted individual such as myself might see fit to add to his ever growing cellar and flip ya a few chips for yer troubles.

Dino has it, just a common misunderstanding on an interweb forum thingie. It wouldn't have happened if we'd been face to face. Thanks for the offer sj, there will be folks here who like your unwanted tobacco and will be happy to send you the postage and, knowing pipe smokers, almost certainly a box of stuff you do like and probably some extra credits for a trip to Applebees.

most definitely a misunderstanding. I would be very interested in such a deal, always looking to expand my experience.

I would like to say if I offended SJMILLER I apologize. At the end of your post you implied you might dump it on someone and I volunteered to be the dumpee.I am more than willing to wait and see your list and pay accordingly. But don't leave the Forum there are good people here.

I am amazed that people were asked for advice and when it was given, are now being called rude. No one need walk on eggshells for the easily offended. SJ is correct however, that someone has been rude.

Joe may have been the only one of us who correctly understood the original post and Dino is spot on. Sometimes these things simply get lost in context in places like this. I had to communicate with people via e-mail for years because everybody wanted what I stated in writing, there were a lot more of them than me on both the inside and outside and sometimes things just went haywire. The only reason I didn't get canned is nobody else wanted my job.
Now that I understand, I think it's one heck of a nice gesture on your part. Too good to be true in fact which is why some including myself may not have gotten it up front.
Leave if you think you must but come back if you want. We'll leave the front porch light on for you.

The written word has to be the worst form of communication ever . You cant see the grin or the wink after the statement . Rarely does one see , I misunderstood your intentions .

I just re-read the original post, and I can certainly see why it came across as someone wanting to shower people with unwanted blends. Dave Shain (Shaintiques) has a solid reputation for helping out military guys with pipes and tobaccos, he was awarded the doctor of pipes at the Chicgo pipe show because of his many years proving himself. www.facebook.com/shaintiques

No Question about Dave, I have been the recipient of many gifts from the Fellow in PA, couldn't ask for better. Shouldn't wear shorts though, he's got bad legs. That's Herbindave I'm talking about.
