I added four pipes to my collection today. The Roma "Select", Lorenzo "Skyscraper", and a Stanwell "bishop" I ordered from a man named Val Shannahan. They all smoke great and are in great shape. He also sent some tobacco to me. Some frog morton on the town which was lovely, some sutlif vanilla custard that my wife and I both loved, and some Lane-1Q and peter stokkebye luxury navy flake. I havent tried those two yet. I also ordered a peterson sportsman 69 that I plan to smoke in about an hour. I ordered some Macbaren Vanilla cream flake that I just smoked in the Lorenzo and loved it. I'm still new to pipe smoking, but this seemed like I should make a post about it. What do you guys think of those blends and the pipes as well?

Cool beans. Good tobaccos to begin the journey. Sounds like you've got things going.

Some people say that the Stanwells were better when they were made in Demnark, but I don't know if that is truly the case, I know that they do make some great looking pipes..some of their special editions are amazing looking. pipedia.org/wiki/StanwellI love the Stokkebye flakes, they are good fresh, if they have a few years age on them they get much better.... On a recent Country Squire radio podcast, JD said that one of the Frog Morton series (maybe more) is made with Syrian Latakia, and that source of leaf has dried up so McClellands will no longer be able to offer it, if that is the case and you like it, you might want to stock up.

I'm pretty sure that only applies to Frog Morton Across the Pond. I don't believe there is Syrian Latakia in the others.

Thanks for the clarification, Margaret....hard for me to get the froggy blends straight! I think that I have tins of each in the cellar, but the cellar one is the only one I have tasted.

Yeah, there was a recent debate on that in another group I follow right after P&C announced they had received the last of McClelland's Syrian Latakia blends, Pond being one of them. So far I've tried On the Town and Cellar. I like Cellar better, but On the Town is good too. I do want to try the other three, I probably should hurry up though if I want to acquire Pond.

I'm finding that I like perique too. I tried the Acadian Perique you sent me and enjoyed that quite a bit, hubby even liked it, he said "That was is kind of sweet smelling" lol. Will have to try the Bayou one.
