A third of the way through this bowl of C&D Crooner in the very first pipe I ever bought ($2.49) in 1974; a smooth three quarter bend Dr. Grabow Omega with a black vulcanite stem. This will get me to dinner time.

stvalentine is a saint, and a scholar. He finally gave me closure as to where Merkur 2000 pipes came from today. I'm currently smoking my first bowl of C&D Pegasus while I try and decide which tin I wanna poop and smoke first. (Pooping a tin instead of saying popping is an old forum inside joke from some German friends a few years back) I'm staring at sealed tins of C&D: Bayou Morning Flake Burley Flake #1 Burley Flake #2 Speakeasy Navy Blend King Cake About the Pegasus. Anyone that knows me would say "How is it possible Zach that you are just now smoking Pegasus, you smoke pounds of Runowski blends?" True. But there are still 2-3 of his blends that have been on my list and for over a year I was focused on stockpiling favorites. Pegasus is straight up my alley. OJK, Haunted Bookshop, and Pegasus are the holy trinity of Runowski, although some would also juxtapose Morley's Best in place of one of those. Good evening to all.

Speakeasy Navy blend is great, but here's my issue with a couple of the newer C&D releases. When Small Batch Carolina Red Flake was released, C&D stated that they used a special batch of a sweet Carolina grown red VA that they had a "limited quantity" of the leaf. Fast forward to a later Small Batch release; Sansepolcro. Sansepolcro is absolutely the same red varietal with some dark fired florets. Ok C&D, you're using up the rest of that "special varietal." Fast forward to me half way into a large bowl of Speakeasy Navy blend. This is a dead ringer for Carolina Red Flake with the smidge of perique added. There's not even a slight hint of rum which I could have sworn their video review stated it was cased with rum. Now, it's good. It's very freshly tinned a couple weeks ago so it surely needs some age. If you missed Carolina Red Flake, buy some Speakeasy. It's the same exact tobacco with a pinch of perique I'm not really tasting.

Nearing the end of this hour and a half bowl of Speakeasy. Thought I was tasting dark fired under there so went to look at the components and subsequently JimInks review. Yep, dark fired. Now towards the end this tastes like Sansepolcro. I can't understand how he tastes any rum in this unless his January Batch was totally different than this one. Up front the first half of the bowl was Carolina Red Flake and hints of the dark fired I suppose. Still getting no perique and no rum. Loading some Sutliff Mixture #79 in a rekamepip pearwood oyster with bark trim and swirly brown acrylic stem.

There is rum and perique in the blend, but as I stated in my review, but they are not major players by any means. Maybe the other components are disguising your taste buds. Now smoking Watch City Persian Slipper in a 1975 three quarter bend black Dunhill Shell 52021 with a black vulcanite stem.

I mowed the front yard & 1/2 of the back yard, then ate some chicken nuggets & tater tots.
I started a bowl of GH Dark Birdseye in the MM Diplomat Apple, then finished mowing the back yard.
After weed eating & trimming the brush along the fence line, I sat on the patio admiring my work, drinking Gatorade & finished my pipe.

I bought some Carolina Red Flake when it came out. but after the mold issue, I sent all of it back without smoking any. I love Sansepolcro and have literally 9 tins in the cellar, with one open to smoke. I have 3 speakeasy tins (two in the cellar and one ready to open (after I finish some of my other open tins)). I am looking forward to smoking some based on you comments here. Maybe I should buy some more, if the red VA is that good. That's probably my favorite tobacco type (red VA).

I have one open jarred tin and 3 more stashed in the cellar of Carolina Red Flake. It's a serious unicorn now. I know most of the people that still held onto the rest of it. Try that Speakeasy before you buy more. If you like red VA and some dark fired go for it. You'll want more. I'm going to smoke the Red Flake and Speakeasy side by side at the same time tomorrow for comparison.

Back here now after several hours in the Briar Patch chat room. I didn't write down what all I smoked and in which pipe. So I can't report here. Was drinking icy tea the whole time.
I want something mild and smooth for the nightcap smoke. Think I'll puff some Low Country's Natural VA. and Burley, in the Pete Summertime XL90 bent billiard.
