Evenin' Pipers! Relaxing in a lawn chair smoking Heine's Blend in a Radice Hawkbill and drinking a Thai iced coffee. I had to fire up the Tiki torches, skeeters are out tonight and it's too early for the bats.

Second bowl of Speakeasy in a different pipe and after 24 hours of breathing in an open tin, fully rubbing and drying is yielding more flavor this time around. It is primarily Carolina Red Flake ( I'm smoking them side by side) then a dash of dark fired Kentucky, then a smidge of Perique and the faintest splash of a rum I can pick up on now. This stuff should age extremely well. Right now I'm still giving the edge to the pure sweet red Va of Small Batch Carolina Red Flake, but 10 years in the cellar might make this one jump the lead.

C&D Small Batch: Carolina Red Flake in the Savinelli 904KS with swirly yellow acrylic stem and C&D Speakeasy Navy blend in the late 60's Dr. Grabow Grand Duke lovat. You are so lucky to have CRF that stayed good. After jarring 7 of my 24 tins as a test last summer, all 7 showed mold within a couple of weeks. So, I exchanged all 24 tins. :-(

You are so lucky to have CRF that stayed good. After jarring 7 of my 24 tins as a test last summer, all 7 showed mold within a couple of weeks. So, I exchanged all 24 tins. :-( Immediately after learning of the mold issue, I dumped the tin and removed the paper insert. Dried the tobacco out gradually on a sheet of cardboard until I got it firm but not quite crispy to mitigate mold. Put it in a brand new clean mason jar. MrBlandings traded me a tin of A&C Petersons 1999 Escudo for one tin of Carolina Red Flake and I have 3 more tins in my cellar. Can't believe you had 24 tins. No mold would be growing in a sealed tin after all oxygen had been depleted, so I'd have at least kept a tin or two for many years. Once you open it dry all of it out a bit and smoke it up fast. All tobacco has mold spores in it, they just didn't mycoban this run enough with how high of sugar content this Red contains.
