So I recently got the thunderbird insert for a zippo. I have heard great reviews about this thing, but I have a problem with it. Everytine I light it it keeps making this little arse blue flame that doesnt even come out of the whole in the lighter. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Do you need to get small pliers and pull the wick out more, make it longer?

It doesn't have a wick it's a butane insert.

It sounds like there is a lot of air in the chamber. I've found that fully purging the lighter allows for better filling. Some folks empty the lighter and put it in the freezer for a couple of minutes while the can of gas sits in a glass, or cup, of hot water for a few minutes. That seems to give a faster and more complete fill.

If the problem is you need more flame, there should be an adjustment on btm of insert to increase the Flame.

Agree with several of the comments here. One of the most common issues I have seen is air pockets in the chamber. Fully draining then refilling should render good results. Brad is correct also, if it's not an air pocket issue, it may just be a flame adjustment.

Look at the flame adjustment. I have a butane lighter that the adjustment is backwards. - makes the flame higher and + makes the flame go lower. Also if you can Clean the nozzle for the gas to come out by using a small brush there might be something there.

the Thunderbird has a lifetime guarantee. I had problems with my first one, it worked fine for the first few months then simply stopped lighting even though it still sparked. I just sent it in with the certificate and got a new one and it's been working great. So if you've tried everything you can think of with no results, just exchange it.
