One of the top reasons I became a cartoonist was the influence that Adam West's Batman had on me when the show appeared on television in 1966. The first episode was a big event in our neighborhood, and reception we gave it was loud and energetic. I got to meet Adam West some years back, and when I told him I knew I would become an artist when I saw him as Batman, he smiled, leaned back in his chair with a smile, and said, "That's very refreshing to hear. Over the years, I've had a lot of people tell me they became a private detective or a policeman because of me, but this is the first time anyone has told me they became a cartoonist because of me." We chatted for about ten minutes. I'm glad I had the chance to tell him that, RIP, Adam.

Over the years lots of people have played Batman but no one can replace Adam West . For one thing he had that deep voice and he did not need to wear a plastic breast plate . RIP

Good Bye Adam West, and Rest in Peace. Condolences from a kid in the 60's and early 70's.

Seems like we're losing big stars every day.

I watched them in reruns, but still loved the show. So sad he is gone.
I loved this scene:

Even as someone who didnt grow up with this Batman. I still love this show. My stepdad introduced it to me while I was in junior high, and the shows ability to take itself seriously while they climbed a building and santa poked his head put of a window is still amazing. This past year for the anniversary of the show, they made a cartoon movie and had all the original cast voice the characters. It truly is a call back to the show. RIP Mr. West you will be missed.

I grew up watching the reruns, and my youngest has gotten into them as well. The true Batman. He has simply returned to the Batcave until we need him again.

And that phony pic that made the rounds a few years back on the internet.... It happened to Batman in real life, saw it with my own eyes! The scene is sped up...
