Nice to see so many new people coming over. Don't know if it's just me, but in the past couple of weeks, it seems to have really taken off. I believe that they will like the experience here.

Honestly, I am on many pipe forums but almost never post to any of them. Just not my personality. For some reason I just feel at home here and have posted more in my short time here than I have in years on those other sites. Nothing against any of them, just get such a welcome vibe here.

Really I've been on multiple forums where you had to watch your back and I don't like that. I trust my friends judgement. That's what brought me here. And I'm glad it did.

Since we are talking about it, just a few stats for this month so far.
As of today, with 13 days left in our billing cycle, we have hit 111,070 page views, of our allotted 100,000. We are on track to hit 190,000 page views by month end.
We are averaging over 5000 page views a day, with a monthly high point of 8,765 yesterday.
All but 3 days out of this month so far, we have added at least one new member, with several days being 2-4.
Now, these are not deep dive analytics and my dashboard doesn't tell me if these are unique visits or just our membership tooling around the site. Either way, I would say we are pretty damn active.
So, a big Thank You to all our members. It is all of you that keep this site going and make it what it is. The sense of camaraderie that exists here is something I haven't seen since the very first forum I was ever a member of. I am humbled.

It looks like you're about to double your allotted page views. What does this mean in terms of your out of pocket expenses? You are welcome. The difference is pretty minimal. Everything over the allotted amount is charged per 100 page views and that amount is small. So we aren't talking about doubling our monthly cost or anything. No worries. |

I was just looking at our Google Analytics page. Still trying to figure out what it all means, but in a nutshell, we are doing well. Quite a bit of unique traffic (meaning people that are new visitors) and a lot of traffic coming in from search engines.

We have thrown around the idea of allowing people to become "contributors", something similar to supporting your local PBS station. I'm still wrestling with it as I always want this site to remain free and not require anyone to feel obligated to contribute. I'm trying a few things that will possibly generate revenue for the site without having flashy ads all over the place. More for the hell of it as we are not struggling to keep the lights on. |

I only link the website pages to them Facebook sites because FB lacks the functionality to make a coherent point with a smoking related post that involves more than one link, "bold" statements within "quotes". The moderators at them Facebook pages generally don't want people promoting sites, but in these types of cases, they have the good sense to understand allowing them types of posts are mutually beneficial. |

How do you know that this Forum is growing so fast? If you visit it more than once daily, take note of the most recent threads. They are rarely the same twice, which means that the members are active, and posting frequently!

For the record, we have only ever banned 1 person here. I prefer to keep the type of the crowd that doesn't ever require using the ban hammer.

I think that rational, fair, and judicious use of the hammer is just as big of a factor as members who require it. So the fact that only one has been banned here says as much for the mods as it does for the members!  |
