Well I flew home yesterday, and remembered Carleton Hacker's experience with things getting ugly when he spoke about cleaning his pipes during a flight. (Pipesmoking a 21st Century guide) The trick is do it in the very last row, it will still stink like hell but when no one knows where the smell is coming from, they can't sic the flight attendants onto you.
Tip: At least for me...my small airline sized bottle of everclear went through TSA inspection inside my Maxpedition jumbo Versipack, so I didn't have to use the Tanqueray that I bought on board for pipe cleaning.
And the Barf bag works great as a soiled pipe cleaning recepticle....the designer was pretty thoughtful, as the closure pretty well seals the smell in.
Ytour mileage may vary.

Boss, you're slayin me. Having flown for the first time when I was a teenager, around the world a couple of times while in the Navy, over a million miles commercially (not on one airline though) and having my pilots license for over 25 years now, I can tell you that I've done derned near everything that can be done in a plane, short of jumpin outta one, and even have the t-shirt to prove it. But not once did the thought ever cross my mind to Clean a Pipe! Love it.

The wife and I both have the IPhone 7 that takes the "lightning" corded headphones, no adapter for her Bose, so I did the gentlemanly thing.😎 A side note... I certainly didn't need to drink on the plane though, one of my second cousins is married to a liquor executive and brought 4 cases of assorted whiskers and scotch to the family reunion... it wasn't too bad until I had to get up at 5AM and smoke 200 pounds of pork... that was a bit rough until noon.😉 My liver is taking a sabbatical now.... had a great time, and met some amazing people.... thirty years between reunions is a bit long, so we are doing another one in 3 years.

Haha Charlie, you´re a brave man! Considering how short the fuse of TSA and air-marshals is today I wouldn´t have dared to unpack a pipe on a plane.

Very clever of you, Charlie! I'm one of those people who just are not able to sleep on a plane (especially on longhauls), so that'll give me something to do!
