As some of you probably know, my son Seth and I attended the Dr. Grabow Factory Tour the other day. We had a blast, and as I stated in my previous posts and pics on the tour, at the end we were able to pick up some pipes from the "Scratch and Dent" section before we left. Having what could best be described as an addiction to Bent Bulldogs, I picked up three unfinished bulldogs, 2 smooth and one rusticated. So, this evening while sitting up in the mancave enjoying a pipe with my other son Nick, I decided to start finishing these unfinished pipes. One of the smooth ones has a pretty unremarkable grain so I decided to turn this one into my "Dress Pipe". Meaning that I'm staining it black. While I was letting the first application dry, after lighting it with a match, I decided to shine up the other one with nicer grain. Silly me forgot to take any before pictures, but here's the afters... As I sit here typing I've got my No Name Dr. Grabow stoked up with Carter Hall, breakin er in while I'm letting the second application of stain dry on the Dress pipe.

Very good result, congrats & enjoy. I didn't know that DRG had a scratch & dent bin. The factory tour sounds like fun.

Nice job of finishing, what are you going to use for finishing the dress pipe? Boss, I finished it a couple of weeks ago and I guess I forgot to post it. I decided to go with a satin finish....
