About a week ago, I was sitting going through my pipes I didn't smoke in order to send some off to see if the gentlemen at Blue Room Briars might be interested in purchasing some of them. I gathered up five I thought they might be interested in and off they went. Had nothing to lose really since if they were not interested they will cover the shipping to send them back.
So the next day, I decided to look around the 'net to see if there were any pipe makers in Tennessee whose work I could afford. The answer was no. Oh well, life is like that sometimes.
The following day (stick with me, I am going to tie it all up in a minute) I was doing my daily run through various sites seeing what new estate pipes were listed and I came across a rather interesting pipe that seemed familiar. It was a rather large piece of briar that had the face of a man carved into it and the rest of the briar was carved to look like it was the man's hair and beard being blown back by the wind. I knew I had seen this type of work before so I went back through the sites of Tennessee pipe makers from the day before and found what I was looking for. The pipe had been made by a guy named Roy Roger Webb who had been carving "spirit pipes" since the early '80s in Sevierville, TN. His work was featured in the book "The Pipe Companion". The pipe was marked "RW 83 #29". So if it was 1983 it was one of his earlier works. I had to have it. The guy selling it was a pawn broker and had it listed for $49.99. It arrived yesterday and with the exception of a badly oxidized stem it is in perfect condition. (Tried to post a picture but couldn't get it to work).
Also got a call yesterday from Blue Room Briars. They wanted the pipes I had sent and gave me more than I had hoped for. I took the store credit option and was told that it could be used to buy anything on the sight including the new artisan pipes they sell. So suddenly pipes I could never afford are now with in my price range. Now if I could just figure out which one I want. Good times!

I cherish all my pipes so much, especially pipes from my grandfather and others, that I've never considered sending of them off to get appraised as an estate, but it does make me wonder if a few of them could help me afford pipe or two that I really want. Good find it sounds like you've found. Post some pictures in the smoking thread once you get some taken of the new pipes. You've got to click the orange "reply" button on the right corner of the quick reply box to get more options. That will give you all the scripting options up along the top of the reply field and allow you to click "Insert Image" (the little photo in the list of top buttons) which will allow you to paste in the link to your photos.
