Forum member Sam (SJ Miller) recently offered tobacco up for free that he no longer smokes, frankly, I have plenty of tobacco but I am always wanting to try something else, so I took Sam up on: Grassmere....five stars C&D King Cake....five stars Kajun Kake...five stars C&D Dark Fired Kentucky...great stuff and I like a hearty smoke, but I need something to cut this with... he gave me 1 oz of this. I am good at following recipes, but am not even a novice at blending...thinking about adding some to a 3.5 0z tin of Orlik Golden sliced aged 3 years...what would be a good starting point? I don't want to bugger up both tobaccos. On one hand, I have to question Sam's taste...these are great blends that he didn't care for...but that is tempered by thankfulness for his generosity...but darn him...now I have at least 3 new blends I have to cellar!

I received Bengal Slices from him and that is now on my to buy list!!! I haven't tried the Commonwealth blend yet but I sure that will also be a winner!

If ya find a combo ya like, then make a big batch. It does work pretty good with Golden Sliced, other VA's & Va/Pers, but it is real easy to overpower the blend with just a pinch too much. I have some PS Dark Fired that I add to different tobaccos every now & then, I have used it with several aromatics to make a heartier blend with a nice smoky undertone. It plays nice added sparingly to red Va.'s like 5100 as well. Here's a couple aromatic blends I've made: Dark Fired Black Coffee - 70% PS Black Coffee, 15% PS Black Cavendish & 15% PS Dark Fired ... + or - on % of cavendish & dark fired to suit your tastes Smokey Maple - 85% Sutliff Rum & Maple or SPS Maple Street & 15% PS Dark Fired - maple gets easily overpowered + or - 5% on dark fired Enjoy!

I like that DF coffee recipe. I was initially enamored of PS Blk Coffee, but as with their equally unique Sambuca, I acclimated to it quickly and subsequently, tired of it. Sidebar: PS Black Cav is a great mixer. I have modified and even saved a couple of blends with it.

Thank you, just what I was looking for...I do have some aro's that could use more "punch", so that might just be the ticket...definitely will try on the Virginia's.

You are all most welcome. You finally figured me out! I am really a secret agent hired by tobacco retailers to trick you into buying more tobacco.
