When my son and I went to the TAPS Expo back in April one of the biggest treats was meeting Mike. He was sitting at the table with my son and I as we smoked our pipes and visited with the other folks in attendance.
Mike figured out pretty quickly that although I'd been smokin a pipe on and mostly off for 35 years or so, there was infinitely more things I didn't know than the few things I did.
I'd mentioned to Mike that my tobacco cellar was pretty small and that I had intended on expanding my horizons a bit at the expo and that JimInks had offered to help me round things out a bit.
A couple of days later I get a pm from Mike asking for my address. Said he had a few things he wanted to send me.
A few days later I get a care package from Mike & in it was a very generous sample of Stonehaven! and several other samples including RDF, Vermont Maple Cavendish, HU Directors Cut and others. Not to mention a really neat little tamper and one of the portable pipe stands.
To say that I was taken aback would be an understatement. What a kind and generous soul.
This story in and of itself would definitely put Mike at the top of anybody's Pipe Pal of the Year Club. Over the weeks and months since Mike has also sent me a really neat hand carved Olive wood pipe.
A couple of weeks back Mike paid me the ultimate honor. He sent a beautiful Edwards Pipe for me to refurb for him. Man what a beautiful little briar this pipe is. After I did what I could, I sent it down to Ric Farrah @ Briarville Pipes, to have either the broken stem repaired (tenon broke off in the shank) or have a new one made.
After I sent Mike some pictures of his little beauty, before I shipped it down to FL, he told me he had picked up another Edwards for me to restore for him.
As you will see later tonight, after I get through posting all of the pictures in a different thread, I spent the afternoon driving 1 hour away to pick up an entertainment center for my mancave with lots of shelves for my growing collection of briars and ever expanding Tobacco Crawl Space (it's almost a cellar now )
So, about 30 minutes ago, after finally finishing with rearranging the mancave, I sat down and opened the box I received from Mike today.
I'm blown away Mike. What an incredible gift! This pipe is Brand New!
Thank you very much my friend.
