True. Personally, I'd be willing to pay to support the site as I have with other sites, so that the site owner, in this case Justin, doesn't have to go out of pocket to provide necessary services while keeping ads off the site. If more server space is needed to cover uploaded images, that would be worth supporting. I wouldn't make it mandatory, just voluntary. At least you won't have to worry about a commercial site holding your pictures hostage. Ditto. It is so nice to not have to go through multiple steps to post pics here. I'd gladly contribute towards increased storage costs to continue to have the convenience. I agree I would pay as well for an "upgraded" membership to help cover dedicated server. I've been using 3rd party to reduce the space on the sites server. Will look into others phot sharing sites once I return home.

Today, every photo I have posted over the years is gone. Will I ever use them again? NO Sorry to hear it Marty. That is exactly what I was concerned about. As I posted on another thread, I spent a few hours over the last couple of days downloading all of my photos into a file on my pc and then re-uploading em onto Imgur.com Imgur is much faster and easier to use than pb was. Still trying to figure it al out. So Marty, Can you not see your pics / albums at all when you log on? I can still see them and have the option to download them own on the rh side. I just went back to some threads that I had posted pictures on, and all photos from PB are gone.

As some of you may very well know, Photobucket changed their terms of service. Photobucket is one of many sites that allowed you to host your photos on their site and then share them with 3rd party sites. In other words. All of the photo's I've posted here and elsewhere are linked back to my photobucket account. This morning I received a rude awakening and discovered that EVERY picture I've posted here and on the other pipe forums now have been denied access to my photo album unless I pay a ransom. I know, I know, I'm a Cheap Sum Bitch and there's no such thing as a free lunch. But the increase of what they require to have the "3rd Party Sharing" option is absolutely outrageous. It's not an extra $20, $50 or even $100 a year... It's over $500! Yup 5 Benjamins if I want to liberate my photo album. So, please accept my apologies for all of my pictures being absent from my previous posts. I'll spend a little time this weekend and see how many of them I can retrieve and either find another site or some other way to post em. dino Try Flickr. That's what I use. It's just as easy as Photobucket. Just takes some getting used to.

Marty,
I selected the "download album" option on the right.
Set up a temporary folder on my desktop
Once done I opened up the zip file and then selected the ones I wanted uploaded to Imgur.
All in all about 3 or so hours of work

Thanks for the recommendation fallguy.
I've already set up Imgur but will keep that in mind if I run into problems.

Just a little background on photo posting here... I know it is being discussed in another thread as well, but that's more related to the technical side of it.
First, The Briar Patch is a hosted site... somewhat different from what some other forums use. While I manage design, content and user experience, the software and servers that the forum runs on is provided by the hosting company. If we wanted to expand our "server" space for photos, I would need to reach out to them and find out what that would cost. The primary problem with photos is that they can take up A LOT of space.
Second, even if we had loads of space to store photos, I would NEVER want the forum to be the primary location of a member's photos. I personally think that everyone should find some 3rd party storage solution, even if only to protect against your computer shitting the bed and losing everything you have.
Finally, this site started as a free site and as far as I'm concerned will remain that way. Though it is not free to run this site and our chat, it's nothing that's preventing me from putting food on the table or clothes on my back. Additionally, while I appreciate the willingness to contribute, I have seen what that can lead to in other places.
I have never been opposed to corporate sponsorship with non-intrusive, pipe and tobacco based advertising, however we have never been presented with that opportunity and I would be hesitant of the possible "caveats or restrictions" imposed by said advertiser.

You should be able to sacrifice for us Justin, there are some nifty threads at the thrift stores, you just have to know where to look. If you server crashes though, it would be more beneficial to know the name of the guy to be pissed at...Imgur and Photobucket are nameless, faceless organizations.

All that aside, you raise some great points.

Thank you Justin for the best forum I've seen. I addition is the Chat Room some of us use often. I use both, and enjoy them. I'm wishing you the best, and if need be the advertizer you need when you need them, without intrusions into the operations and format of the forum and chat room. I've seen forums which are mostly a place to display advertisers, and little thought into the forum's format and ease of access for the members.

I'm in the process of uploading my photos to another photo hosting site. I'm being more selective in my uploads, and I'm learning the way the host works. Reposting the pictures here is easy. Also the site isn't constantly trying to load, and taking a long time for my pictures to be available.
