Peter A Dall Sr. Yesterday at 9:25am · ...OK...so my rant for the quarter...like many media outlets, TV has become a real cesspool...the drivel that comes from the TV is absolute nonsense...The programming, ads, commentary, everything about it caters to a far different crowd and world that I do not live in... 95% of all ads insult my intelligence, News outlets...forget it all-together, Prime time is a wasteland, Talk shows are insane, i.e. Dr. Phil, The View, ...Reality shows...Who's reality??? Perhaps my age, upbringing, or something else, anymore I see very little value in the majority of what media has to offer... ...from my Facebook page...

I have to agree....news isn't news anymore, there isn't a scintilla of objectivity, and so many of the tv shows have an agenda that I dont care to subject myself to. For downtime my choice usually brings me to the Acorn app on my Roku....the mysteries are first rate, and the history is interesting. acorn.tv/

Direct TV ONN, conservative news, switched to this after Fox changed hands. Still taken with a grain of salt. Everybody in the news wants to be a Star, Horrible, watching more PBS, reading more.

When watching limited commercial TV, the Mute button on my remote is the most often used. Streaming and the Roku are my alternative. I watch over the air (no cable) nostalgia channels and news. However, the commercial load for the nostalgia channels is excessive and abusive and when not streaming, I watch movies on DVD & vhs.

I gave up on many of them "free" channels, I understand that they have bills to pay, but some are outrageous in how many commercials....Hitchcok would be pissed!
In my family, we share netflix, Hulu, Vudu, Acorn, Sling, etc....
We have agreement...you pay for this, I pay for this, he pays for this, she pays for this, etcc...and we each have a limit on mobile devices....sure beats the hell out of $150.00 Satellite bill...until these companies catch on and put the kabash on it.

There are a lot of people that see the same thing you see Peter. The dumbing-down of our world has become a frightening fact of life that many do not see. There are too many people that are living in a haze created by the simplistic stupidity of a short attention span lifestyle. The reality tv generation has taken over the subconscious of our waking lives turning it into the doldrum we are experiencing in the media today. We can only hope that we are not on the road to an Idiocracy future. www.craveonline.com/mandatory/1045965-10-things-idiocracy-predicted-would-happen-and-sadly-already

TV really is turning the brains of kids into mush. So are their phones, literally, with the amount of accidents caused by not paying attention to their surroundings.

We too are CordCutters.
Got rid of satellite/cable tv over 3 years ago.
Upgraded internet to 300mbps
Got 4 Roku boxes
Have Netflix, Amazon Prime & Hulu.
Get my news in the am and pm by loggin on to Townhall & Drudge & WSJ
Life has definitely gotten better.
No more commercials and no more sifting through the swill and slop being shoveled into the troughs of the Sheeple that seem to gobble it up.

I too must agree with ya Peter, and that's why I don't watch much anymore, I usually confine myself to Smithsonian or History channels and the like. Never watch news, what for? Lies? Weather? that's a joke. Mama always told me NO news is Good news and what ya don't know won't hurt ya.

Tv sucks-mind numbing brainwashing, filled with pharmaceutical ads with the warning portion being longer than the main section. ...which reminds me...several years ago, two of my youngest, 12 and 14 years old at the time saw the commercial on Viagra...you may recall the part that stated, "if you experience an erection lasting more than 4 hours, seek medical attention immediately"...trying to figure out a reasonable answer was a bit tough...Because of their age, they thought I should take them to the ER... ...as far as the other comments...I appreciate your feedback!

Yellow journalism from straight out of 1900 is back. Shills for the money; a circus act. I remember in the early 90's when CNN displayed "BREAKING NEWS" across the screen, it was some big world event. Now, every day, everything they talk about displays BREAKING NEWS. They have no sources for the majority of it. (yellow journalism;sensationalism;hype media, FUD(Fear,Uncertainty, &Doubt) tactics) I just used CNN as an example, all the mainstream corporate owned medias are doing the same thing.
I won't rant about it but agreed. TV is garbage and won't last past this decade.
Nearly all retail outlets will close up due to Amazon and other behemoths. (Amazon is about to become the first company valued at a TRILLION dollars worth) Everything will move to the internet. Cable and sat tv providers will belly up. All manual labor jobs will virtually be taken over by robotics, and all clerk jobs, fast food jobs, Lowes, Homedepot, etc. All taken over by robots in this next decade. Not speculation. Guaranteed. Artificial Intelligence is coming. Alphabet corp (Google's parent company) own the rights to a LOT of quantum computing and AI(Artificial Intelligence) and soon the entire world will be nothing like it ever was before to our knowledge. A brave new world, under 24/7 surveillance and sousveillance and metaveillance. Recording devices in every single home and room. Your phone can already be tapped into at any moment with the screen appearing off. Your smart TV is a remote listening device already.

It's been about 15 years now since I've had cable programming ... never miss it.
As some of you do, we use Netflix and other apps to view only what we choose. Even then, the finger is always on the "gong button" when a new show starts.

From 1975 until 1993, I worked in a specialty where I dealt with news media and the public in crisis situations. I developed friendship with reporters and photographers at each stop in my career and 90 percent of them were honest, hard-working and fair. The majority of them were also conservative leaning and really hated what the called "blood & guts" journalism. Like me, they all retired - some were pushed out because they balked at doing things they felt were unethical.
One commonality among them was that the media was moving too far to the left and was becoming biased. Another was that TV news was more interested in pretty faces who would do what they were told instead of hard working journalist who reported stories from both sides and double and triple checked their sources.
One of them even told me that the death of journalism would be because socialist/communist were taking over the universities. He also predicted that the internet would also destroy professionalism.
Now, 24 years after I retired and no longer work with media on a daily basis, I look back and say he was right.

when hubby lost his disability last year we had to give up cable, but honestly it wasn't a huge loss, we only watched about 6 channels. hubby preferred history channel and i preferred the forensic shows, but for some reason hubby doesn't like me watching shows like "Snapped!" lol. We don't do Netflix or any of those other things, we buy old TV shows on DVD. We have things like The Dick Van Dyke Show, Hogan's Heroes, F Troop, Addams Family, etc -- shows that had good writing and clean humor. Just picked up Airwolf (okay, that one is a guilty pleasure from my teenage years, lol) and Tour of Duty. Hubby plans on using that one with his troops he is responsible for training. All indications point to us being involved in warfare in the jungle or woods soon and today's military doesn't know anything about those kind of tactics anymore. I have the complete Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes series and am working on collecting David Suchet's Poirot -- I LOVE it! We also have Gilligan's Island and Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman. The one contemporary show we have is The Big Bang Theory. Hubby relates to Leonard on the show, lol.

agreed. it was such a shame he made all those bad choices. it seemed like for a time he was trying to pull his act together, but you never hear about him any more.

Maggie, If ya'll don't already watch streaming content on your tv, go pick up an inexpensive Roku box. Here's a list of their channels cordcutting.com/roku-channels/No monthly subscriptions, just a one time purchase and plenty of free content.

One of them even told me that the death of journalism would be because socialist/communist were taking over the universities. The majority of professors in the business school at the university where I completed my undergraduate studies were primarily conservative WSJ individuals. For that matter, many of the political scientists were as well - No indication of communist takeover there or any university in Kentucky at present of which I'm aware. Haven't paid for TV since the late 80s. Primarily watch PBS and donate on a regular basis. BBC, Nightly Business Report and News Hour are my favorites. The information gained has served my investment portfolio extremely well.
