It had a rough edge that Velvet didn't. While it's not a unique blend, it's not quite like other OTCs. I only smoked an ounce of it years ago, and never had a chance to smoke it again. Hope Craig smokes and enjoys it, lucky man.

...I smoked it back in the early '60s and I agree with Jim's review for the most part...It is not similar to Velvet or PA...perhaps a rougher version of CH...did get a bit edgy and definitely a sipping tobacco...probably would need some hydration...a piece of history to enjoy!

At the Chicago Show in 2016 a vendor in the tent had a big jar of 1950s GW out on their table offering it to people. They told me to take a few bowl's worth. When I asked them what it was like, they said Carter Hall. I did find the bowls that I smoked to indeed be Carter Hall-ish. Definitely no strong topping like Velvet has.

Well I'm going to rehydrate it and give it a try on it's own then made use it as homebrew.

Well I'm going to rehydrate it and give it a try on it's own then made use it as homebrew. Whoah!!! Hold on. Do not rehydrate all of it. Many well aged tobaccos over 20 years get quite funky if rehydrated. Smoke a bowl or two as is bone dry and chances are it will smoke perfectly. If you feel you MUST rehydrate, only rehydrate a sample bowl or two, don't go for it all at once. Very well may turn really rancid.
