A woman once told me "I would never own or carry a gun, I would be inclined to get pissed off and shoot people that deserve it".
The clear inferrance was that I should adopt the same mindset.
I told her "I agree with you, if that is the case, you should never own or carry one, but to project that mindset on others is patently unfair. The last thing I ever want to do is shoot somebody. The fact that I do carry is a responsibility not taken lightly, and ever since I started carrying I am more prone to de-escalate a situation, there are instances where I am sure that the offending party thought that I wussed out, but in the one instance that I had to draw my gun, I know without a shadow of a doubt, it prevented a gang from possibly stomping my brains out in a parking lot."
I cherish the time I have left on the earth with family and friends... if my health continues like Brad, I want to hoist a pipe into my eighties.

The BMI calculator is so pointless. Even in the Army when I was running 4-5 miles a day with a two mile time just over 12 minutes, I was overweight at 6'2" 220lbs and needed to be 'taped.' -That is the method used to determine percentage of body fat, for all you lucky devils who didn't have to suffer the humiliation of said test every four months. I'd love to be 220 again. haha Anyway, my point is the BMI was put together by some random swede and has nothing to do with levels of health or fitness of individuals. Smokers needing lungs, I get it, but how can you punish people who are naturally built differently than others? Here a a couple pics of my 'Overweight' days haha In this one I was like a pound shy of 'obese' (Me on The Left-Smoking Two Cigarettes) I hear that. I used to get taped every damn time. Had do the Hollywood Diet to scrap through WLC. Found the trick though, eventually. Become the Training NCO. Bye Bye tape test...

What is really a bummer is that for commercial drivers the protocol for asessing whether a driver can get their medical examiner card so that they are cleared to drive. If you admit to snoring, off to the sleep clinic for you before you are cleared. If your BMI + Neck circumfernce meets their formula...off to the sleep clinic you go. The problem is it can be arbitrary, and the industrial clinic that my company requires us to get cleared through, has deemed that they can be guided by their gut feeling...off to the clinic you go. That has led to abuses and it played out for the drivers based in Albuquerque. Every driver was suddenly getting flagged to go to the sleep clinic that was contracted with, by the sending physician...it doesn't take a Sherlock to say "Follow the money". Fortunately, the union took it out of their hands and any driver that is triggered to go to a sleep clinic does so at one that the union has decided has no conflict of interest. The heath and welfare is provided by the union, so they get saddled with paying for all the cost of the C-Pap machines.Miraculously, after the new rules took place, most of the drivers experienced an incredible change in sleep apnea status...the numbers dropped dramatically, and a lot of drivers now have c-pap machines that they were able to donate to needy people.

I know it wasn't the point of the thread and I'm not sure how we arrived there, but I am not anti-gun for the record. I own a a pile of them and I like the idea of responsible and level-headed citizens being armed.

I also think that, if I was deemed suitable to carry an assault rifle all over the world on behalf of the federal government, I really shouldn't have to take a damn class to carry pistol on behalf of myself and my loved ones. Just sayin'. Not political, just think the $200+ that Arkanasas collects for a ccp is dirty.

Very milleteresque, kind of like it its like a challenge in every tin😄. The tin art will be missed, guess ill have to laminate the old labels and slap em on top to avoid the morbid motif.

I wonder if anyone has ever been stopped from doing anything by a warning label, no matter how gruesome? If nothing else, because teenagers...
As for the gun thing, typing this only because I've had them on me in times of need. Never had to pull the trigger, and I pray that continues to be my track record. Nothing special, that only puts me in a group of literally millions, but cheers for the Founding Fathers!
Owning a gun is a right, safety and training are a responsibility.

I remember when the Surgeon General had warnings placed on cigarette packs back in the 60s. I don’t believe anyone smoking cigarettes at that time was inspired to quit smoking as a result of those warnings. These warnings on pipe tobacco tins wil no doubt have about the same lack of influence. Even if tobacco tins warned that my chances of being struck by lightning increased 100 times by smoking tobacco I will continue to smoke my pipe whenever it suits me to do so.

AJ I disagree very strongly. My parents and grandparents stopped smoking on account of the '64 report. Hell, that is what drove my grandfather to pick up a pipe!

Has anyone here visiting a nursing home or extended care facility any time recently?
About the only way I could handle living in one of those places is if I got to trip on acid at least once a week and I could smoke as much marijuana as I wanted in a basic feeding tube type device.
Those places are SHITHOLES.
MAYBE smoking my pipes will give me cancer by the time I'm in my 80s. Or even 70s. Sure as HELL BETTER than living in one of those concentration camps for the aged.

I’ve got 80 Acres, when I can’t navigate anymore I’ll go to the far fence line and take care of business. My wife was a hairdresser at a nursing home, not for me.

I completely agree. My wife has worked temp shifts in a couple and I did some volunteer work. They are facilities to keep life going at a bare minimum because murder is illegal. The ratio of employees who care to those who are only there for a paycheck is sad. So yeah, take me out before I ever have to go into one of those. Or at least have me lucky enough to be cared for like my grandmother. When diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I became her full time caregiver with my wife, mother and father all chipping in at night and on weekends when they weren’t working.

I wonder when guns will start having permanent, morbid warning labels. I hate the engraving that Ruger has been using for years that basically says "RTFM". Seems silly on my 44 Special Blackhawk.

I've been to good nursing homes and bad ones, and there is a significant difference in comfort and accommodation. The main thing is that Medicare doesn't pay for nursing homes, and only the "shitholes" take Medicaid, because the payment rates are lousy.
If you don't individually plan for, save for, and pay for long-term care, you're not gonna have a good time.

If it makes you feel better, the imagery they use is worst case scenario and as such work as shock value. Not saying it couldnt happen but your chances of getting to that point would be like winning a morbid lottery.

True...the one of the teeth rotting are more an example of bad oral hygiene than smoking (IMO).
