A friend gifted me a sample of this. I have not had any of the FM blends before. It has an oaky, whiskey aroma in the pouch. The stave wood in the tin adds to this effect. Looks to be about 50/50 light and dark tobacco, both Virginia and Latakia. Fairly coarse ribbon cut. Lights easily, and needed few relights. Somewhat sweet on the tongue, sort of an aromatic nature. Smokes a little wet, but did not bite. Seems pretty light to me, but very pleasant. A little bit of tanginess on my tongue, grassy and oaky. I occasionally felt like I smelled cedar. Got a little peppery towards the end of the bowl as everything got drier. A little moisture in the bowl at the end. All together a good smoke

I like Cellar the best of the Frog Morton's. Thanks for reminding me of it.

Another fave with the oak piece in the tin is Stave-Aged Virginia 35. Very pleasant smoke.

Save the stave. Soak it in high proof whiskey and drop it in with any tobacco that needs a boost. I also soak it and put it back in the FMC tin for even more flavor. I find that Old Ezra 101 proof is ideal.

Have you ever had Don Julio 1942? Glorious. Naw, I drink the old regular brands Jose Cuervo etc. I can't taste any improvement in the more expensive brands and usually they are worse. Sorry, but I think "premium" clear spirits like tequila, vodka, gin, etc are for suckers.

I'm a big Frog Morton fan.
All I have tried so far is the original and Across the Pond.
For me, although I like the ATP, I'm still partial to the original.

Have you ever had Don Julio 1942? Glorious. It would be lost one me, I'm afraid. I just can't stand the flavor of tequila, so even though I might be able to tell if it's better than other I doubt I'd like it.

I like the cellar also, I have about 3 tins of each of the other variations, but I have never cracked them. I would like to have this with a carved pipe in his mouth for the yard... sure would beat a garden gnome.

I have had several friends tell me the same thing over the years, and then I converted them with quality tequila.

Cuervo Gold is like that. Tastes like turpentine. True Cuervo variants can be nice.

Then I looked at the prices.

Ok, can someone explain what's so special about these blends? I've read the descriptions and don't see any thing to draw me to them.
Of course when I see the words black Cavendish, aromatic, any fruit, berries or sweeteners the breaks lock up and reverse is quickly engaged.

If you like latakia blends AND you like aromatics you will probably like them (or love them). If you like one but not the other, it's a toss-up. If you neither latakia nor aro, stay away. All four are pretty similar - sweet English-aro blends. None are lat bombs and the topping/casing is applied with a light-ish touch. They are kind of the benchmarks for the genre. Darker and richer than something like Lane's HGL. More balanced than and sweeter something like Boswell's Countryside.

I don't know that there is anything special about this one. It was a non-goopy, slightly whiskey flavored English on the lighter side. It was pleasing and not cloying. What do you like to smoke, John?

I have similar tastes, John. VaPers, English, Balkan blends dominate my cellar. I need to venture into the straight Burleys more.

Well back in the time when I could drink hard liquor I was a gin (Bombay Sapphire) and Vodka (Absolut) man, Now my doctor only allows me to drink wine and some of it is pretty good like Port, Merlot and Mateus. I do not like white wine except Sauterne. Anyway red wine has greater possible health bennies (or so I've read)!
