Not a fan of filters, can I smoke a Grabow with no filter without getting a mouthful of tobacco?

Yep, I have several filter pipes and never use a filter. Makes for a nice open draw.

I typically never smoke any pipes with a filter but they smoke great with or without.

Pipes don't need filters. They are an antiquated notion. Never had a problem with my Grabows, cobs, or any pipes by refusing filters.

They do make adapters for the filter pipes that close up the width of the pipe to that of a standard pipe.

Why would you want/need one ? On my pipes that were filtered, I simply leave the filter out when I place the stem in the shank. No problemo, just a little bit larger area, by volume, in the stem & or shank than a non filtered. Still smoke great and actually with less restriction than if the filter were there. Just my $0.02

I guess that it just closes up the hole so that you don't duck up any chunks of tobacco. Here is what they look like.

For what it is worth Filters are made for those that choose to smoke the Heavy Flavored wet Aromatics. They are also made to help while smoking that nasty foul stuff called Black Cavendish. They are designed to reduce the tounge bite and to reduce the amount to juice that travels up the stem while drawing.
Dr Grabow are good pipes to smoke Va, Vaper, Burleys, VaBurPer and sometimes an English.

I've never smoked a pipe with a filter only bought pipes that took one because I desired, that pipe. Most certainly none of mine would be made to take filters if I had a choice

My first pipe was a Grabow and I smoked it until the first filter clogged, removed it, tried it without, and never used another filter.

Along with tongue bite, filters were also always advertised for filtering out the nicotine as well. They do filter a substantial amount of nicotine in my testing. I have a few full packs of filters from the 70's in which they are labeled as nicotine and tar filters.
