I apologize if this thread already exists, but I searched several times and couldn't find one. Anyway. Thought I would get some feedback on how 'BAD is my TAD' I have only been back into pipesmoking for roughly five months and my friends think I am a hoarder. I feel this is a modest amount and have maybe only a quater of the blends on hand I'd like to have so far. The Tobacco Nook in my den Close up And a couple dozen tins I found I liked and wanted to 'cellar' I'll do pipes in another thread when they are amassed. I have half packed to go to camp on the morrow! I am sure most of you will see this and laugh. I'm hoping anyway. And lets see your hoards!

(I'm a bit of a bookworm, I guess I have B.A.D) You and I both, my friend! Most of my books are in storage. That shelf represents the books I or my housemate have purchased in the last two years since living here. I have well over a hundred hardbacks from Easton Press and the like. I found those deals where I get a new book every month and spend hours digging through ebay for old gems. Nothing with any real monetary value, but I love my collection. Paperbacks.. I'd have to estimate what I have by the pound. haha I got sick of lugging em around though, so I have im boxed up until I buy a house and find them a permanent home in my dream study. It's a bit dark, but here are some pics for fun. And my bedside table is rather busy as well Attachments:

That's great stuff bud. I see you're a Stephen King fan. I haven't read any of his books since The Stand. You have a couple of more copies of Dune than I do. If you enjoy history I'd strongly recommend 1776 & Team of Rivals. Great books. Have you read any of Ayn Rand's work? If not I'd recommend you get a copy of Anthem and see what you think. If you find that compelling I'd recommend Fountainhead and then Atlas Shrugged. Both heavy reads for the novice, but by the looks of things I'm pretty sure you're up to the task. Dino

Yes. King! My mother was an avid reader of his and while other kids were cutting their teeth on Goosebumps, I was buried in his work. After growing up with his voice, it is so familiar that I feel like I am visiting home in a way every time I read a new book of his. As for Dune, those are my friend David's. He has been on me to read Frank Herbert for years. It is due, I know.
As far as Ayn rand, I guess I owe her a day in court. I have heard good and bad. I have heard she is an excellent writer, but politically.. I grew up dirt poor and tend to look on the less-fortunate in a more sympathetic light than she. I have a good many close friends who.. were born on third base thinking they hit a triple. haha That isn't to say they are not hardworking. We certainly have some colourful debates at times. You know, I think I will read Rand. What would it say about me if I were to only read works by authors I know I agree with? Off to Amazon then! I will start with Anthem and pick up 1776 and Team of Rivals as well. Thank you for the recommendations!

Great attitude Justin. I appreciate your candor and your willingness to consider other view points.
I too grew up modestly in a blue collar family, my dad was a mechanic. Folks weren't political so I grew up really without any preconceptions.
Stephen Covey, one of my favorite authors of books on leadership and management, wrote 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The first habit is "Be Proactive", the opposite of reactive. The second, and in my opinion one of the most important habits, is to "Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood".
I've read and heard far too many people that damn Rand's work without ever having read it or learning anything about her.
She grew up in Russia and was in high school around the time of the Bolshevik revolution. Her family owned a factory that was taken over by the new government. Her book We the Living, though not publicized as an autobiography is pretty close to what she and her family experienced after the revolution.
Anthem is a great start and a relatively quick read. You'll probably finish it in an evening.
PM me after you finish it and we'll discuss it if you like.

I tend to think out loud a lot. I also have a lack of a gate when typing. I can turn a simple reply into a novel if not careful. haha I feel as though my foot has a summer home in my mouth at times. I could maybe benefit from reading some Steven Covey. That second rule eloquently puts into words the approach I have always tried to use in life. Whether it was an angry customer, a soldier in my squad who was not performing to task, or even an angry drunk in a bar- I found that simply showing a willingness to understand someone can often solve a problem or even diffuse a situation entirely. That is a good thing to have room to come into one's own when growing up. My mother was big on explaining things from both sides objectively and intentionally withholding her opinions so that I could develop my own views. And my father was a mechanic as well! In his good years, that is. When he wasn't a rolling stone. I have always been interested in Russian history. Such a varied and turbulent place. People always refer to America as a melting pot. I feel like Russia held that title centuries before we acquired it. I would love to read more on the subject. I also need to read the celebrated Russian authors. Tolstoy, Dostoyevski (had to google for spelling haha) etcetera. Running at the mouth yet again. haha It has been great talking with you, Dino and I look forward to many more conversations. Justin

Excellent resourcefulness John. I especially like what looks like a re-purposed Cd / Dvd rack of shelves.

Excellent resourcefulness John. I especially like what looks like a re-purposed Cd / Dvd rack of shelves. Thank you sir. The CD racks like this will accomodate the half-pint and pint mason jars. You can only stack a double layer of half-pints if you have a wall behind it.

Pardon the mess...the office is in transition. When I took up the pipe after a 25 year hiatus, I quickly found out what i liked and started zeroing in on what I would want to cellar. Looking at the prices people in other countries are paying, I figured that I should start loading up as it is never going to get any cheaper. As for Books, mostly theological, historical, and political philosophy...I really should catalogue and itemize what I have here, if I were to have a fire it would really be a drag. The only thing the wife gives me the Alice Kramden look over is when I lug another crate of ammo into the garage..

Great pics, guys. It is apparent that I am nowhere near close to having enough tobacco. haha Admirable cellars. haebar Love the CD rack idea, John. trailboss Those are some serious jugs, Charlie. Favourite blends or just some deals that were too good to pass up? (The large jars at the bottom I mean) And good to see yet another bibliophile in our midst!

Favorite blends....
The one jug has troost, sail, SWR....I got them when I participated in the tobacco of the month club at P&C, the other jar holds the plugs that is cram packed with Velvan plug, Murray's Warrior plug, Revor plug...i have another couple jars of Condor plug...all of them were procured for me by Simon Thurlow on his trips across the pond.....pretty special occasion smokes.
I have some other big jars of bulk Dunhill blends not viewable...the rest of the jars believe it or not, have a method to the madness...I am pretty eclectic, but half are flakes, plugs, crumble cakes...what is really weird is that all the jars of my Pirate Kake have a fog in the jar...it isn't mold...really weird.
I have two more 250 gram rods of heinrich's curly block and 500 gram pack of GH Dark plug coming, but at this point, I think I am done cellaring. I will jump on stuff that is here and gone on the net quickly when it becomes available, but I probably have enough to carry me to a ripe old age.
I do have some tinned aros that will probably make their way to my brother (10-12)...most all were part of the tobacco of the month club, my brother loves aro's and this makes shopping for him easy.

I am working on a new storage system, mostly for the tobacco. I try to keep a few pounds of every one I like.
Added it up recently to 100 pounds.

PhantomWolf You can't intrigue us by placing a Skeletor bust on your mantle and then not let us know the story behind it.

Here's a shot of my running rotation storage. Here's a shot of my cellar storage. Here's a shot of my library. So glad to see all you other bibliophiles. I've been thinking I'm a throwback--i know so many people who have no books at all. BTW, redwinekline, if you're interested in Russian history, I recommend highly anything by Suzzane Massie, esp. Land of the Firebird and Pavlovsk. Almost nothing better than sitting in the library surrounded by books smoking a pipe.

My cellar is a little over 130 lbs these days. I’m not going to try and take pictures as it would just be of a couple piles of banker boxes.

The spreadsheet was my original way of doing it and I just kept maintaining it in parallel once I started using TC.
