Sitting on a lot of aged stuff that will eventually see it's day in the sun. However, like many, I have reached a point where I don't need to try certain genres ... looking at you Aro's! Probably most excited to eventually pop my 2002 Germain's Special Brown Flake and 2000 McC's Xmas Cheer.

I have about a half dozen tins of things that I haven't tried yet. I like what I like and am well past the stage of feeling the need to try every blend ever made. I'd rather smoke a bowl that I know I'm going to enjoy. I have come to that same conclusion, John. All of this BS (imho) about trying this or trying that have not done any wonders for me. I'll try what unopened stuff that I have left, but I also know pretty much what I like by now, and am going to go that route from now on. Trying new blends all of the time tends to take away from the ones that you really know and like.

I've been a craft beer drinker for 2 decades now. I have my favorites, but there's still great beer I have yet to try. Nothing wrong with keeping favorites around and trying new ones, way I see it.😁

These are my unopened ones. They're a little over 4 years old now. Which one would you open first?
Honey and Chocolate or Cocktail Hour From what I have heard, the Aromatics aren't geting any better with age, so I'd smoke those up first. Also, I can never land a tin of Bengal Slices, so personally, I wouldn't be able to resist.

The Honey and Chocolate was discontinued by MacBaren in 2014. Maybe I should hang on to it!

The Honey and Chocolate was discontinued by MacBaren in 2014. Maybe I should hang on to it! It had a following, but I don't think it was one of those desert island type blends that would garner much interest in 10 years. Then again, who knows. Stranger things have happened. I have a handful of things in the cellar that are "old". I mainly hang on to them because they are not necessarily blends in my wheelhouse. I'm sure at some point, an opportunity will come up to crack it open with a bunch of friends and share. They always make good gifts too.

Jim, if you do a book of your reviews, make it a comic book series.
LOVE this!

I have a bunch. I need to buy more of the small, 4 ounce jars, then I can pop tins, have a couple of smokes from each and jar the balance.

Holding on to what little vintage Three Nuns I've got left... Strang Rope, Revor Plug, and Cobguy's Spice Cube also.

I just counted - 28 unopened tins of blends I haven't tried. I'm not really hoarding or aging, just have so many opened jars and tins. Though my tins of McConnell's Scottish Cake and Flake have about 8 years on them, and I probably will age those for as long as possible.

unopened, all '06: daVinci, Abingdon, Blackpoint, 10Russians, Exotique.
Working on last couple oz: BestBlend, 965 (Murrays bulk). If still upright eventually will crack one or maybe two of the above.

I have been an off and on pipe smoker for 50 years. About 45 of those years I smoked drug store blends; some good, some not so good. Five years ago I joined a pipe smoking forum and began to read about "premium" tobaccos, along with the blends I was familiar with (CH, PA, H&H, CH, Sail, etc,). Then this guy whose name shall not be mentioned, but that smokes a lot of bowls every day until 3 and 4 in the mornings, writes tobacco reviews proficiently, loves baseball, is involved someway in comic books, and tells people to "go fry an egg", traded some "premium" blends with me. He soon learned the tobaccos that I like and enabled me to build a cellar.
Now I have an ample supply of jarred and unopened tins of tobacco that I enjoy. At my age there is no reason to stockpile more in my cellar. I do plan to purchase more tobacco though, now that Amphora brown is available stateside. I was buying it by the case (box) from the Dominican Republic. And, when I return to the DR for a visit, I might look to see what else may be available there that we can't buy in the states.

That Honey & Chocolate is horrible. I'll take care of disposing of it for you...

Off of the top of my head these are the blends that I know I have that I haven't opened or tried yet:
Bengal Slices White Knight Deep Hollow Grousemoor MacB Va no. 1 Troost Slices
I know I have others in the cellar but I can't remember without looking.

I think you're right that it won't be a desert island blend. That said, the tin I cracked has been very good. I think it has the right amount of age on it now. It's very smooth, it wasn't goopy, and it has a dark chocolate flavor that isn't sweet. I'm not sure when aro flavors really start to disappear, but @thatfallsguy my vote is smoke it now.

I have a variety of blends that I'm letting age, like Super Balkan, Whiteknight, Black House, Astley's 44 and 109, Tilbury, HOTW, etc. Some of these I'd smoked in the past, but I'm holding on til they hit the 5 year mark. A few, like some very old Escudo, Haddo's, etc I'm letting hit the 15 to 20 year mark before smoking, and some rare ones, like Bohemian Scandal, are awaiting a special occasion.
