Can't think of anything that I'd like to try, still have way too many current blends to try.

Walnut, Barking Dog or any of the Old Burley non aromatics. Walnut and Barking Dog were both aromatics, but I mostly smoked the match blends. I do really like the Barking Dog Match from Sutliff, and to mention it, really like the Walnut match as well. If you haven't tried them, you really should get an ounce of each. I was sad when Sutliff stopped tinning the Barking Dog match. They used to sell it in the Private Stock series as Man's Best Friend. Now it seems you can only buy it bulk as Barking Dog Match, only on P&C, and I will no longer order anything from P&C. Here's hoping SP gets that blend in bulk soon. I've been out for about 3.5 years. I suggest you call Smoking Pipes, and ask them to carry Match Barking Dog. Explain why you think they should carry it, and include the fact that some Shelby Foote fans buy it to mix with EGR. I've done that in the past with a few blends, and they listened to me, and started carrying what I suggested every time I made a suggestion. A company like SP needs to know what the customer wants, and they can't always do that unless they get customer suggestions and feed back.

Old Toby. Unavailable since the late-middle of The Fourth Age by Shire reckoning.

Only because it's what my grandfather smoked, I would like to try George Washington. I tried it, and thought it was pretty decent. Wouldn't mind smoking it again. Anyway, Pipestud has a tub for sale if you're interested: pipestud.com/famous-old-drugstore-tins/It's of the market now. I'll send you some if it's smokeable.

It's of the market now. I'll send you some if it's smokeable. Thank you!! When I first started smoking a pipe back in 1974, I remember Eckerd's Drugs had two tubs of GW for $2.95 each. Being a new and curious pipe smoker as well as being a history buff, I really wanted to buy a tub. But, when I was 13 years old and in those days, that was a lot of money for a kid. I could always manage to scrape together enough cash to get a pouch of tobacco, but not a tub. I can't tell you how many times I stared at those tubs wishing I could buy one. So one day, I decided I'd start saving up to buy one, though I didn't know how I'd hide it from my parents. Didn't matter. By the New Year, I was half way to my goal, and the tubs were sold, and I never saw GW for sale again.

That reminds me when I was young and we'd use to go bottle searching and cash'em in for the deposits, use to come up with a couple of dollars most the time. Of course bottle deposits back then were 5-10 cents each depending on the size. The good ole days........

When bottles deposits were a penny apiece, my brother and I had about a hundred of them. We were saving up to get a baseball which cost $2.95. One day, my dad came home from work and told us he had stopped by the store and the price of bottle deposits had gone up to three cents. We talked our mom into taking us to the store so we could cash in, and then we bought the baseball.

Writing about the George Washington blend and your comment about cigars reminds me of seeing a five pack of Ben Franklin coronas in 1975 for a quarter. I really wanted to try them for the same reason I wanted to try the GW pipe tobacco, so I bought a pack. They were the nastiest cigars known to man... made Hav-A-Tampas taste like Padrons. Vile nasty cigars... sour mud sludge meets creosote, castor oil and essence of La Brea Tar Pits.

I didn't mention my picks, which would be the first year production of Bell's Three Nun. The first year production of Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend would be interesting. Maybe Mixture #79 first production as the musk they used at the time was a by-product of gun powder. That had to be strange.

I was going to buy it yesterday when I thought it was initially a 12-14 ounce but when I saw it was only 7 ounces I kinda started looking for something else. Pertaining to Mixture 79. And you're right, I should write to SmokingPipes about the Barking Dog Match. I've written them several times about questions and things, they're always responsive. Awesome company.

My number one would be Dunhill London Mixture, made by Dunhill. A close second would be 1960s Balkan Sorbanie. Perhaps my third choice would be Red Rapparee (made in Perth).

"They used to sell it in the Private Stock series as Man's Best Friend."
Sutliff still sells this in a tin. I Tried it, it was a decent smoke. H&H Mid Town Chestnut and Sweet Cask are good smokes. I found I have to let them air for a few minutes before smoking. Not the P&C match blends when ever I try to order them they are.out of stock.

The P&C match blends are Sutliff but Mans Best Friend in the tin was discontinued a good 3 years or so ago, if you can still find them in a B&M I'd buy them up. I got all of em I could from a local Tobacco Stop that carried them. The Barking Dog Match sold at P&C is the exact same Sutliff blend, if you can ever find it in stock.

I still regard the removal of Kentucky Club Continental from the market place as a Pipe Crime of the first order!

Here we go. I got the 14 oz. Tin of George Washington from pipestud. It was still sealed and made that nice vacuum release sound when I opened it. Tobacco wasn't moist but it was not dry - after all these years it was still soft and supple. Loaded a MM Diplomat cob with some and lit it with one match. Burned all the way to the bottom. No bite. No funky taste. The old price stamped in ink on the top of the can reads $1.19. The inside paper was old and brown, but I don't know if it was white to begin with. The Tobacco:
