I recently came across a Dunhill pipe and in my search to find out about it I have apparently caught the bug of pipe smoking. I can recall my Grandfather smoking one occasionally, and I wish I knew what tobacco it was he was smoking. The only thing I can recall about it is it seemed sweat and very light, and even to a young kid (as I was) it was very pleasant to be around. I would love to find something similar if anyone has any ideas. I know its a long shot, but that smell could sure bring back some memories.

If it didn't smell like a fruit flavor, it was probably something like Sir Walter Raleigh or Prince Albert. I suggest you try a few OTCs like that, and see how they work for you.

Welcome to the forum. Could have been Sir Walter Aromatic.

Jim is right on the money there! Do you remember if he had a can of tobacco and the color? Did he fill his pipe from a pouch and if so was it a leather zipper pouch or some kind of plaid fabric pouch or did the pouch have a tobacco name on it and made of something like foil? All of these questions may be able to help us figure out what tobacco your grand pap smoked. Most importantly...Welcome to the forum and enjoy the journey of finding you grand pap's blend that brings back fond memories and maybe a few other blends that will make memories for your grand kids too!

I'd concur with OTC's and with Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic as an outstanding choice.

Thank you all for the replies! I wish I could remember some other details about the container, color, or anything else about it, but really all I have is the smell. I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about when your nose catches an old smell from your past and all the memories come in right along with it. I am excited for the journey to find it :-)

Try all the "Over The Counter" tobaccos in pouches and tubs on smokingpipes.com or it could have easily also been a Tobacco that's been discontinued. For example, a lot of old timers stuck with one or two blends and many such as Walnut, Rum and Maple, and many others popular in the 60's-90's were just discontinued over the past decade. You're in luck though. There are match blends nearly identical to Edgeworth, Walnut, Sugar Barrel, etc. Good luck and there are many who can recommend good beginners smokes as well.

I agree with the OTC recommendations. I suggest Carter Hall and Edgeworth Ready Rubbed (Edgeworth match).

Lane Ready-Rubbed and Sir Walter Raleigh aromatic are good choices. Also Lane's Burley Light without a Bite (BLWB).

Welcome not much different to add, Carter Hall, SWRA or PA are good to start, maybe Half & Half. Just trying to think what your gramps might have smoked as you asked. ERR match another good suggestion as mentioned.
