I saw a gent enjoying his pipe outside a restaurant in Chadd's Ford last night. I asked him what he was puffing, and he said it was a VA flake that he had had someone, possibly a farmer, press. The presser lived in VA somewhere, and was not Old Virginia Tobacco Co. Unfortunately he had to go in when his table was called, so I didn't get any more details. Does anyone have insight on who this presser was?

Lots of farmers in the belt regions have their own presses so that could be anybody. I know haebar here has pressed his own plugs and a few other people I've come across doing it at home.

Yep ... pretty easy, really! My latest press is a Bright Leaf / Red FCV / Perique Flake that was jarred up on 6-18-17. In another month it'll get popped open for testing and long term cellaring ... are you down for a trial?

Absolutely! I've just been researching and attempting to make plans to make a carotte, or a Naval Sailors Prick. The rolled up logs of tobaccos that British sailors used to make. Also called periques or pricks. According to some guys making them, 6 months in the log just about turns any leaf varietal into a Perique log with varying flavors based on what leaf was used. I am ALWAYS willing to try tobaccos.
