I'll be the first to admit that a name attracts me as I want the mood to fit the tobacco. I was gifted a few samples of Sterling Tobacco (other review should be on the morrow as a reply here). Royal London Dock's Pouch Note had a nondescript something extra that made me want to try it first. It is advertised as a light English. Yes, it could be called light. But here are some notes: Totally smooth No bite. Light nic hit and a mild (almost) flavor that bridges (in my opinion, noting I know squat) my desire for English v Aro. It could definitely be smoked all day long, and then you may finish your day with Nightcap, Quiet Nights, etc. Pricing is similar to a Dunhill blend, but this is from a small blender, which gives its cred more juice. It will not take me away from Aros, though nothing could. I do see this as a daily go to and will get some of this in bulk. I also note Sterling has some nice sounding Aro blends. Sterling LinkJimInks ID's some sugary, raisin, Vanilla in here. I will not disagree and believe this is the extra I tasted. He mentions not an all day smoke, but repeat performance. I edge it up to it could be an all day smoke. What I won't do is give stars. I really enjoyed this so at the moment it is 5 stars. In the realism that often follows a good night's sleep I mayhap change it to 4. Oh, Lordy. What a quandary. Then if I smoke it again... let's just say this: I really liked it and will buy it by the half pound. A pouch certainly will not do. As always, I thank my hero, my ideal, my guru, JimInks, for pointing out things I didn't "get" this time, but will look for it next time.

Thanks for the review. Glad you enjoyed it. I am a Sterling Tobacco fan too. You mention his line of Aromatic's and I would note that many of those have some nicotine content. I recently tried some blends in his Natural line and thy were all quite good.

I don't know if I would call this an update or an addendum to my review. A couple reviews mention this as having rum in it. I have said in the past I am not fond of liquor forward blends, but this is not really a forward, and since was/is an unfamiliar flavor to me it could be why I couldn't put a name to the flavor or even pouch note. The only thing I would change, in addition to mentioning it "might" have rum, as it is not listed on the site info, is that this is sort of the flavor that tied some other hard to catch (in this one bowl I smoked) essences. I am actually more impressed that a liquor did that. Sorry for my ramble, but I tend to think a lot. The wife is still hitting me with the spatula, so my thoughts just fly out

Smoking Chairman of the Board right now. This is a total non-aro and has a little more of a nic hit than RLD. I am smoking in a Meer Lined Bent Whitehall and there is no bite, burn, or anything. I did get just a hit of natural flavor (not added). It's quite pleasant, but I don't know if I would make an all day out of it. I would pick a couple times a day, like I do with DH Aperitif, and head to English Town. So far, one match and burning evenly. I will probably get a half pound of this and RLD to keep around, and as I said (hate to make this sound like an add) they have a lot of Aro tickets to Flavor Town I want to try.

Sorry to respond to myself, but I wanted to say one thing and the edit is long gone. I don't know if this is all of his tobaccos, but both of these came very evenly cut, shredded, whatever. I have bought a lot of bulk samples and also in larger quantities where I find stems and other things that make the toby look un-uniform. This does cause pipe loading issues as well as burning issues. In the bag these Sterlings look like an intricate mosaic. OK, I'll shut up on it now.

I'll be just south of Jack's little shop in Sterling, IL next month and will try to get pics and conversation.

Ditto!!! I too like Royal London Dock very well, also I like the Country Store Georgia Peach, Klompen Kloggen and his VaPer. I want to try the cherry blends and his natural blends. He has a special on turkish tobacco, I got an email about it, if you order 4 ounces shipping is free, I will be happy to forward the info to anyone who didn't get the email alert.

I've tried British Grenadier and Balkan Sterling, and they weren't right for me somehow. I also have 1776 but haven't tried it yet.
