Okay, I have had a couple bowls where it seemed flavor was not coming through. I have used Whiskey, Whiskey with honey, distilled wawa. I could not find the isopropyl.
First, if you have any little leaguers watching, advise them not to do this unattended. Somewhere in my Bizarro-Verse I recalled that extracts are about 70 proof. Not very strong, but I'm on a roll. SIDE NOTE - Judge Lance Ito just reminded me it is illegal to perform this on pipes used for English/Non Aros. Go back into retirement, Judge, and STFU. Could not find my Maple, Vanilla, or Cocoa extract. Root Beer? Okay, it was late. Pipe Angels surrounded me on one side chanting, "It's just not done, Burl!" Ah, but the little Strike Anywhere Demons were on the other side saying, "You will never be able to grasp the stone from my hand without achieving Pipedia Lunacy first! Go for it, child!" So, my better angels lost out and I wiped the bowl down with it a few times. Let it sit overnight. It did smell of Root Beer this morning. Loaded El Cheapo Pipe-o with some honey berry Cavendish. No more ash taste and I was able to get the notes I strove for. So, I go online to buy two gallons of Root Beer Extract. None of my cards worked. I got the denial email that said I was screwed for all time, signed~~~ Your Former Better Angels.
Actually, the point is that extract worked fine, even perfect, for cleaning out a pipe used for Aro. I will use Maple or Vanilla next time.
As to English/non-Aro, I don't think it would bother me to treat those either. I seriously doubt I would complain if I got a touch of sweetness with Nightcap et al. You English smokers, quit saying "La la la, I can't here you." YMMV

I sometime use coffee to dampen a pipe cleaner, if when cleaning, I haven't wicked up enough moisture.

Hey if Coca Cola can clean toilets and car batteries I figured out all by myself it would work great on a pipe. Been dipping pipe cleaners in my soda for years. Who says you need high test alcohol when you got Coca Cola. YMMV

I like the idea of using Coke, but like the idea of adding some rum to it first. Yeah, Cuba Libra pipe cleaner!

I'd end up with a mouth full of pipe cleaners and a pile of dirty pipes!

Coca-Cola is a corrosive that's why it is so good for cleaning corrosion from batter terminals, rust from bolts, restore shine to coins, grass stains from clothes and dirty toilets.
Now think about what it does inside your body.

Revolution? Do you smoke Cuban cigars too? Here I go with another story. When one of my girls was living in SF she was dating a nice young, well jobbed up, man. She told him if I approved she would marry him. She also said they had a real Cuban stogie for me. Tony flew me out to Frisco, showed me around town, took me out on the balcony, lit up a fat one, and then told me my girls smoked the Cuban and it was no more. Then he asked if he could marry her. Yup
