I just got back from visiting my family doctor.I seems that he wasn't too pleased with me.It wen't something like this..Stop eating sugar.Eat less carbs.Get more exercise. Lose weight. My old doctor isn't around anymore. This is a new doctor for me who doesn't know my history.I explained to him that I used to weigh 314 pounds and now I'm down to 240.Not good enough he said come back in 3 months and show me some progress.I don't know why doctors have such attitudes.Anyway I'm gonna give it my best effort and go back and show him that I can be a good boy.

Doctors can be a real pain in the arse, Puff. Especially when it seems they have lost any sense of actual connection with a patient.
From a health standpoint, probably not a bad idea to keep working toward improving eating habits and weight control, but it certainly doesn't help when your doctor is a dick.
Good luck, Puff. I'm sure you will be successful.

I don't know, sounds like he truly cares about your health. Let's face it no matter how much you use to weigh, 240 pounds is still a bit much for anyone to carry around and it's NOT good on anyone's heart unless there 7 foot tall. In that case I say Duck! I think if you have a wife and children they'll want you around for awhile longer, at least till the life insurance matures. And if it's just you I would think you'd like to stick around till at least some of those blends in your cellar got a good age on'em. Either way someones gona want you around for a while and being found like Elvis is not the way I wanna go out.

Congrats on dropping that weight, ! Something like one less soda, beer or other high calorie drink per day really adds up over time.

Your doc may not have the best chair-side manner, I wasn't there so I don't know, BUT he's right.

I am of that age when I remember the family doctor, I am not happy with modern medics myself, but there is a lot of information online on losing weight, the HolySmokeNPipePadre gives some good advise amongst his YouTube videos on his pipe smoking channel, you do not have to be religious to fast & abstain. I try and keep up a 36 hour fast on water when I can, but home sweat & dry saunas are beneficial for senior citizens like myself. Good luck.

Doctors today are arrogant, lazy, dispassionate about what they do, and serve to do more harm than good by doing next to nothing for you. But reducing sugar, increasing exercise, and eating healthy can't be a bad start.

After weeding out as much sugar and white flour from the diet as possible, I went from 205 to 175 pounds in less than three months last year and have held the weight since. Pretty shocking actually. Back in 34" jeans I wore in high school and the Army. I eat all the time, don't count calories or fat and am never hungry. Think nuts, greens, veggies and low fat white meat.
It's all about choices, some of which aren't easy at first. Best of luck.

But reducing sugar, increasing exercise, and eating healthy can't be a bad start. Have to disagree with that blanket statement. My deceased step-father of over 40 years was a general practitioner by trade. He treated people whether they paid or not and did a lot of good for many people during his time among us. That having been stated, health related insurance companies definitely match your description.

BIG congrats on the weight loss, ! Yeah, some Dr.s can be rather short. [Start of Rant] I use the VA for my healthcare and most of the time I feel as if I'm just being processed...in, out, "Next!" My anesthesiologist at the Cleveland VA hospital is like that and really hasn't given me an understandable explanation of exactly what my spinal arthritis consists of or how it generates pain. He speaks quickly, moves me in for the procedure, and moves me out. Very little discussion, busy man, other patients waiting, etc. In the beginning, he just showed me a quick MRI image and told me that I have lumbar stenosis and spondylosis with degenerating disks. Yeah, and so? These are general umbrella terms, but, I suspect, he can't give me a detailed diagnosis because he's an anesthesiologist and not an orthopedic surgeon! So when do I see that guy?! In the meantime, he has had to go up yet another rung on the treatment ladder with steroid injections into my spine for pain relief that no longer work. Now I have to wait another month for yet another appointment. I have no idea where this is going, but I'm in pain of one degree or another everyday, can't walk very far, or bend from the waist to any extent for very long, and have to hobble around and use my cane. This has been dragging on now for almost a year. [End of Rant] Oh well, it's the way the VA still operates, but it's free because I'm a combat vet so I need to have some patience on my part.
