Yesterday, after I checked int a hotel, to ride a ballon scheduled for this morning I received the call from the Balloon operator: "Sorry to tell you, but we got a rip in the balloon, so your launch is postponed"...well that sucks but the wife asked if I wanted to search out some antique stores in North Phoenix for pipes....who am I to question making lemonade when handed a bag of Lemons?
Not a holy grail find, but it was a worthwhile venture...the antique store manager told me; "These haven't moved, make an offer", they were listed at $30.00 so I said "How about $15"? "Sold" Should have offered Ten!
I don't really use tobacco jars, as all my tinned stuff is in Mason jars, and I don't need a four pipe rack, I need to sell all of my four pipe racks and get a multi shelved 60 pipe rack...gotta keep looking. The lid had a pourous lava like material that sucked up distilled water like a hoover....maybe I will hit Ace hardware, get a silicone ring and try it out though...
First up is a Crown Duke by Grabow..it looks like a great pipe for flakes, but it is set up for a filter, we will have to see.
Next is a Alpha Regent "Made in Israel"...a little poking around and it was made by Shalom pipes in Israel, from pipedia:
Next is a "Berrod-Regad Nocturne, Made in France 1501" as the markings
The name Berrod-Regad goes back to 1900 and is intertwined with the Butz Choquin brand, they owned the brand for a looong time.

Next up is a GBD Garland without a stem..at first I thought "brass band...obviously a repair", but searching around, it seems that this is the way these pipes came, so since I love my GBD's. this one will get a stem made by Mike Myers at Walker Briar Works.
A couple of pictures of that shape with stems...from Smokingpipes:
And from Pipesmagazine, the center pic..makes me think SP's was a replacement stem, and much more classic, so this is what i am going to ask for.
This was cool as hell, something I have never seen, but at over 400 bones, I couldn't pull the trigger....the outer chrome rings roll like wheels and if you bat it, it is like a Bozo the clown punching bag that only dips to a certain degree, and moves itself upright in a smooth manner and stops at 12 O'clock...has a cigar sadlle on top.

Beside the brand "Shalom" the mainstay brand was Alpha - especially well known in the USA. Alpha was popular for a range of fresh and unusual shapes. Series (afaik): Caprice (s), Citation (s), Classic (b), Pedestal (s), Regent, Region (b), Rex (s). (1)
(1) (b) = blasted, (s) = smooth
Alpha also produced at least one of its Citation forms for Carey's "Magic Inch" series.
Mentioned in context with Shalom Pipe Factory was a Danish pipemaker named 'Muki Liebermann', who later lived and worked in the USA. Muki is known for his unique briar bending technique and his original shapes that gave inspiration to many of the most praised Danish pipemakers.
