So, my plan was to just scope out things on Friday night and get the lay of the land. As we made our way toward the back of the room I turned around and Missouri Meerschaum was right behind me! I tried to be good, but those cobs called to me. I had to pick up a very unique pipe -- an unpolished Patriot. I have to admit I am not crazy about the Patriot shape, which is why I have never bought one before, but this one was unpolished and had quite a bit of red cob in it. Dan Nemets said it was a rare pipe, so I snapped it up. So, that pipe and a bag of tobacco I was recommended to pick up where the only things I bought on Friday evening.
Haebar was the first person I saw on Friday night, he was sitting practically right in the doorway with his table. Seemed like a pretty good spot to me. So, my first purchase on Saturday morning was at his table. I picked up my very first meerschaum pipe.
Right across from Haebar was the table for the American Pipemakers. I had been watching this meer horn on their website for months. It is a Monstrosity pipe. They had all their pipes at 20% off, which meant this pipe was $20 cheaper than online. I couldn't pass it up.
So, another surprise I had was that the fellows from Blue Room Briars was there. I've been watching several pipes there, and a couple of them were at the show, but at this point they were beyond my budget. I did ask about the Prince of Wales I'd been watching. He said it had sold. So we looked around some more, and maybe an hour later we were walking through again and I saw something in their bargin bin that caught my eye. I thought, hey that ferrule looks like what was on the Prince of Wales. I pulled it out and sure enough, there was my pipe, and on clearance!!! So it came home with me
As we were walking through one guy was holding a drawing for one of his pipes for free. I figured, why not? and filled out a slip for myself and one for hubby (doubling my chances, lol) We promptly forgot all about it. So, right before we were getting ready to leave I was at the Lane Limited table getting tobacco samples, hubby standing beside me, when we heard his name called over the intercom. We couldn't figure out why they would be paging him. They called his name again and the said he had won the pipe from the drawing.
So, Saturday evening after we had settled in at home and were getting ready to watch some TV hubby says to me, "I wanna see my pipe." Ahem. I'll humor him for awhile, lol.

Wow Lady M, looks like you and your hubby had a great time there, and you got a nice haul of pipes too! I like your Monstrosity pipe by Olie Sylvester. He's an interesting pipe maker for sure. I have one of his Monstrosity meerschaum pipes which is a small pipe, but great for stronger tobaccos. Hope you enjoy smoking your new pipes, and play nice with your hubby...

Man I'm bummed I was too focused on the pipes and not enough on the peeps. I saw the good lady and her hubby but being my introverted self didnt introduce myself. My wife was drooling over your monstrosity, but she called it the Bob Marley pipe.

Some nice pipes you ended up picking up. You went with a mission! Let us know how the meers smoke as well as the rest once you've smoked em a few times.

I can certainly relate, I am also an introvert. After you posted your olivewood pipe I realized I had seen you showing it to JohnL. I assure you, I do not bite LOL @ Bob Marley pipe.

will do! I wish I had picked up more tobacco. I wanted some Solani Aged Burley and the C&D Small Batch Sansepolcro, saw it at one table but there weren't prices on them and took it as a bad sign so didn't ask. Was disappointed C&D didn't bring their Christmas blends.

I don't care for the spool, I prefer the spindle. Never cared for the polished Patriots, but I really liked this one.

I don't care for the Patriot shape either and I really question why they named it the Patriot in the first place. There's something both not right and off about the shape and it's a bit to phalic. It's probably the only cob shape of theirs that I don't really want and don't know if I will ever get one.

I like both the natural and polished cobs. It is kind of like rusticated vs smooth briar pipes to me. Some look better one way and some another. I do like how the older polished cobs get to looking as the corn cob and plaster contrast with each other. Natural cobs have a great tactile feel though. LM have you got any of the Old Dominion pipes yet? The reddish hue and natural finish might be your cup of tea. I enjoy the reed stems on those.

OMG! I may never be able to smoke this pipe now. I always thought it looked like a smoke stack, or turned upside down it could look like a stovepipe hat. Oh my.

I prefer the natural, they seem to breathe better and don't get as hot as the polished ones can. But, I can easily paint the polished ones, so I've been getting more of those, lol. I have visited their website a couple times but nothing really caught my eye at Old Dominion.
