Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, anytime you have had surgery, good blood flow to the parts is essential, it is better to take a break until after the healing... and for a scheduled/ elective operation ceasing to use tobacco leading up to the operation.
Well ... using that logic ... I recommend you drink a lot more as alcohol is a vasodilator!

I'll feel your pain at the end of the month. Decay under a 20+ year old crown is causing extraction and bone graft. Implant will follow in a few months. Did you get a bone graft too or just extraction? My periodontist hasn't brought up smoking yet...

Hey John. The doc had bone ready for grafting if necessary. I was so out of it when they turned me loose, that I did not ask if he had to do any bone grafting. I go in for follow up on Thurs, and will find out. Avoiding smoking is defnitely standard advice after any oral surgery. Failure rates go way up from what I have read, if you resume smoking. Good luck on your procedure. They did my extraction in March. The socket had to heal for four months. Then the doc wasn't happy with where things were at in July, so he gave it another two months to heal. Any grafting would have been done when he installed the implant last week, because that is when they opened things back up to drill and install. Again, I hope it goes well for you. This getting older business can be tedious.

They used some bone from my hip on one of my neck operations. Now the wife can't tell where my farts are coming from

My doc is doing the graft at the time of the extraction to help my jaw bone fill back in to form the base for when he installs the titanium implant screw in a few months.
