Oh. Emm. Gee. Just got back from the BBQ place in NH, for which Id won a $50 gift certificate. Holy mackerel. We got the family dinner for 4. We took 3/4 of it home. Full pounds each of brisket and pork shoulder. Rack of ribs, whole chicken, whole smoked kielbasa, 2lb potato salad, 2lb Mac n cheese. Corn bread. The pound of brisket was a $9 add-on, and I added two pieces of corn bread. 4 drinks. I paid an extra $20 on top of the $50 off coupon, so it would've cost $70. I cannot tell you how much food this was. I mean, even minus the brisket, it was enormous. I do not know how they operate at those prices. The family of 4 meal was $50, and it was easily $90 of BBQ. Ronv69, it was not sauced, nor was any needed.

A Western Bacon Cheeseburger, fries and XX cervesa for lunch over at our one cafe, "The Crazy Beaver". Beef patty, huge slice of raw onion, jalapenos, pickles, chopped green chile, cheese, bacon, barbeque sauce. Sufficiently stuffed, dinner is postponed.
It was going to be chicken tacos. I came home from town with two large jars of red chile salsa and now cannot locate either of them. I suspect the dog, she seems mighty pleased with herself.

Yesterday was Burger King off the two for six menu. I had two whoppers and one of those new tacos. The wife had a spicy chicken and a plain chicken and a new taco. That got me out of cooking dinner. Just finished eating two frozen burritos topped with Pistols Pete's sauce. Thinking of making chicken fried steak for dinner tonight.

morning greets all. Soon as done here, Schwan #506, added sausage link, shred cheese & all nuked to plateful of mess. Never had the attitude that food should look purty, even in a restaurant. Maybee something quick for mini-lunch after yard work

I have no idea how anyone can screw up a BG franchise so badly they have to close. BG is superior to McDumbos with the open flame broiling. That always got my attention.

Ronv69, it was not sauced, nor was any needed. Glad to hear that New Hampshire has decent barbecue. The 2 lbs of brisket were $15 lb. The rack of baby back ribs was $25! It was good, but not THAT goid. I know that you have to make allowances for the 24 hour cooking time, but it's still too high. He runs a catering service and he charges Wedding reception prices. The next most expensive but good barbecue in the area is 12.50 /lb for brisket. Our favorite place in town is 9.50/lb and $28 for a full size rack of pork ribs, which is about 6x the meat of the baby backs. Which is why we don't eat much barbecue in Houston very often. A rack of ribs that costs 7.50 at Kroger does not increase in value 333% by cooking it.

If it has been wrapped too long in the fridge, I wash it under the faucet and scrub. After drying it with paper towels, it might smell a bit "High", as they say in England, but will cook up fine especially if marinated.

I do not think that was the problem as much as labor costs are rising even in Taos and it was hard for them to compete with Wendy's, which operates very well, and McDuffus, which is slave labor. Then there are all the independent restaurants.

They would throw the frozen patties in hot water and they would set there until someone ordered on, then they gave it a minute on the grill. I am only familiar with the payroll practices of about 600 McDonald's, but the average worker that lasts 6 months is making $15/hr or more. 3 months is over $10. I imagine that Taos has a similar problem as Santa Fe. No affordable housing within a hundred miles.

While the food at the Taos store is not great, the place operated smoothly. As for McDs, I know people who have worked there for years and are in the $9-$10 range. There is talk about a $15 wage as a matter of law but the quaking population of business owners predict the state will be doomed, DOOMED!, should that law pass. They are not wrong. It will be difficult for many businesses.

Ribeye steak, baked potato, salad, mushrooms, red wine, key lime pie. It doesn't get much better than that.
