For those guys well experienced in rope making here is a question. To keep the outside leaf from bursting during the twist,can I maybe put something arou d the ropes? Or instead of a pretzel twist could I roll the tobacco then wrap it in cheese cloth then tighten the cheese cloth ? Just wondering if anyone tried this before.

I'd use more moisture to begin with and ensure everything is laying flat ... flat whole leaves only with no scraps. With twists, the filler needs to be pliable as well ... not just the wrapper like in cigar rolling. Also, when you use more moisture, it is a good idea to "dry box" your twists for a few days prior to jarring. Thicker leaves make better outside wrappers too ... DFK is perfect:
