Hello all, My name is Jamie. I'm 25 and living in Chicago. I'm a grad student studying for my Masters of Education in Higher Education. I'm also a grump/perpetually pissed-off person (P3), so hide your children; I may decide to eat them. I've been smoking pipes off an on for about six years. I'm also into cigars and RYO cigarettes. Although I've been doing it for this long, I haven't really taken the hobby very seriously. There was a year where I quit smoking and then a couples years where I didn't have the money for tobacco or could only afford cigarette tobacco. I have two pipes: a Marxman Dunsboro and an unknown briar, both of which I purchased from a missionary when he left the country and had to downsize his collection. The Marxman Dunsboro The unknown briar (but I still love it) My last bowl was a Three Star Blue aromatic, an Iwan Ries & Co. signature blend.

So you'll fit right in. Welcome to the site! I also like the Dunsboro better. It's a Rhodesian, if you didn't know You probably did and are now pissed at me, but that's ok because I don't have any children.

As I said, I didn't really take it seriously until recently when I decided I wanted to get the most out of pipe smoking.

I searched for "online pipe smoking communities". I found a Christian Pipe Smokers community that I had heard about (previously mentioned missionary I purchased my pipes from was a member there), but I wanted a community that wasn't going to preach to me or heavily slanted one way or another on politics. This community seemed great since both politics and religion are banned here.

If you want to avoid pushback, it might make sense to not bring your politics in with you with your username. Passive aggression is usually frowned upon. How would we feel if someone signed up with the username "#1 Donald Trump Fan"? You're doing the same thing, and get the same results.

Queer is a state of being, political affiliation is a choice. Please keep any further comments like the one quoted above to yourself. This is neither the place nor the time as I don't really give a flying fudge what you think, I'm not interested in hearing your opinions. Leave me be and do not bring up politics again.

Nothing in my username has anything to do with politics. Definitely not true. It invokes a political issue, just like someone coming with with "#1 Legal Weed Fan" or "PEGIDA Supporter" would be.

Whether it is by intention or not to connote a political or any other interest by way of one's username is entirely one's own business, and taking exception to a username speaks only to the problem/s suffered by complaining party. Live free or die! Live and let live!

It was exactly for this reason, among several others, that I stopped actively participating in the Christian Pipe Club forum - they proved to be an inbred sanctimonious group of priggish holier-than-thou hecklers, hierarchical in nature, that took pleasure in incessant adolescent hazing over my avatar image (a famous and well-regarded cartoon character) and signature phrase (comical & tongue-in-cheek), no less, right off from my first introduction. Their evident prejudice from the very start never let up as it bled into every well-meaning post that I submitted in the spirit of generosity and sharing. It's their loss to be sure, not mine. I hope not to encounter such ignorance here, or I will again be gone like the wind.
Sincerest of welcomes, Fearsome Q!!!

Jaimie has been a positive member of this forum since she has joined. Making assumptions on a persons screen name comes across as sophmoric to me. Hell I am a raging liberal and most on the forums still accept me. To each there own Brothers and Sisters!

OK, folks, we are here because of our shared interests in all things pipes. I think that assuming a forum name has a political or religious bent has nothing to do with what we are here to talk about. Some names may be provocative, totally mundane or unimaginative- like mine. It doesn't matter. There was a British politician in the 17th century named Praise-God Barebone. He got saddled with that name and I have no idea how his friends addressed him but I wonder what his forum moniker would be today. The point being, what's in a name? It's the content of character that matters and the sense of bon homme that we feel as a group toward one another. So, as Consigliere here, I hope to see each and every person here accorded the respect they deserve. If there are issues between any parties then take them private. No one is bound by contract to be here. I should also point out that I grew up in New Jersey so I still know "Some Guys". Don't make me call them. And now we return to our regularly scheduled programing.........

John, Thank You. There is a good reason you were made Consigliere.
I don't really have much more to add to John's statements other than I consider ALL OF YOU valuable members here. I don't want to see anyone run off for any reason and I will take personal issue with anyone that causes that to occur.
So, that being said, let's all carry on in the spirit of this forum... to bring the community together, not divide it.

I think that assuming a forum name has a political or religious bent has nothing to do with what we are here to talk about. When you shout something you know not everyone has approved of, through your username, you are provoking a response. That's passive aggression. That you choose not to recognize this is your own failing. That being said, please change my username to "Thank God I'm Not Gay Married" and let's go from there.

I strongly believe that disputing a moderator's response in open forum should be a forum rule's violation. Please change my username to Disgusted by Despotic Forum Member Oppressors!

A) you assume that everyone has a problem with a screen name B) you seem to be the only one concerned by it. Do not presume what I do or don't recognize. I don't care. So, the solution is easy for you. Go elsewhere.
