So Justin (sparks) created this site a while back, and with JimInks signing up like, a million and one new folks (do you know everyone?), it's thriving.
I just wanted to thank you Justin, for introducing me to some of the finest people in the world. It's really expens, oh wait no, it's FREE to me. Justin pays for it, and gives it away to us.
Thanks bro, magnificent job, and thank you.

I can't add anything to the above regarding Justin's wonderful work. Have known him from way back from infrequent visits to a Buffalo, NY B&M. Such enthusiasm for everything. If Justin lived anywhere near our area now.....I'd be sure to slap a big 'ol gold star on the middle of his forehead! Am sure many others will add to the praise. Most know he also started a neat group chat. Would be nice to see others chime in, usually starts to get going somewhere around 9pm Eastern. www.chatzy.com/thebriarpatchThank you again from Buffalo, NY area o fearless leader! I appreciate Sparks for creating this forum where people can have a lot of fun. I've been here from the beginning, and the healthy, friendly enviroment of camaraderie minus trolls, and overly emotional dictatorial whims and jealousy don't exist here.

Kudos here as well. Have wondered if there have (or should be) site auction of pipes and tobac to help with expenses?

Great thread David.
I too have thoroughly enjoyed this site since learning of its existence from Jim, after being unceremoniously banned from kim jung woody's site (first time I've ever been banned from anywhere) for my avatar (yup, the one I'm using here)
Thanks for the great site Sparks. Great folks, and great times.

Thanks, guys and gals.
I have been part of the forums for years and helped with administration of a few. Every one of them seemed to be missing something in my mind, and maybe it was just that I wasn't the guy running it. I had a vision for a place that was fun, visually appealing, easy to use and devoid of the petty BS that exists elsewhere. We have clearly defined rules, but in an atmosphere that makes you feel at home. I don't want people to ever feel like they have to look over their shoulder or worry that they are going to piss off the owner or the mods. That's how The Patch was born.
I think the struggle that other sites have is that they turn into some sort of Machiavellian fiefdom. You have to do this because you love it, not because you want to exert control over a group of people. That defeats the purpose.
I'm grateful for this site, the people that call it home and the staff that help me keep the train on the rails.

This. When you start getting a lot of posts complaining about the rules, and how they're treated, you kinda see the writing on the walls. I don't recall ever seeing that here.

Let me add to the kudos here. And the great Chat resource as well. It's funny that we have other connections, such as Morley's and Lehigh Valley PC, which has turned into a nice personal friendship. Although my dad was born and raised in Philly, at this point you are a major connection with Center City for me. Funny that I kinda knew you in your Buffalo/Windjammer days. In spite of all that, your site would still be at the top of my list when I sign in every day. You may have started this and maintain it diligently, but the folks here have made it into the fine place it is.

I too am grateful to sparks for starting and providing this forum. It's a relaxing way to spend some time with some great folks. I don't contribute all that much, but I still enjoy being a part of it.

You have to do this because you love it, not because you want to exert control over a group of people. That defeats the purpose. . Sparks, you are damaging the carefully cultivated image that we IT Administrators have worked for years to create. There are 10s of thousands of us still working in the industry who will be bombarded with requests for a clean mouse ball, access to Facebook, unlocking access to screen savers, etc., that we have trained the "users" to not dare to approach us with. We only appear to be omnipotent dictators to preserve our sanity. If the plebiscite finds out the truth, it will be Kaos!

@ronv: best request for support I ever got was from a lady who wanted to know if her computer was 'skipping pages' because she had too much kinetic! energy, because she 'couldn't put a piece of toast in the toaster without it catching fire'. Never did figure out what the problem was, but after I'd cleaned and optimized her pc and she was happy, ran like hell.

Never did figure out what the problem was, but after I'd cleaned and optimized her pc and she was happy, ran like hell. Over 22 years, I can't even remember what the "best" was. Some of the incidents were things that would require too much explanation for this site. I had to drive 100 miles to a client once that couldn't understand where to insert the diskette from phone instructions. She also thought that the cd drive was a cup holder, although it was defective because it kept dumping her coffee. The whole front of her pc was brown and sticky. Really. I had to take the front off and clean it inside and out and buy q-tips for the diskette drive before I could get it to read the diskette. She told the owner that I called her a moron. I told him that I never used "that" word.

Was happy to see someone else at least make a comment on it.

Justin, Great job! Now, if only more of the people here would generate threads... Moving over here has coincided with a really busy time, and almost no smoking due to a minor health thing. But I have something up my sleeve....
