Whenever I go to Lowes or Home Depot I just walk right in. Seeing a pipe smoker is so rare I don't think they know what to do about it.

Do I smoke a pipe in public? ...only if I have my pants on - my zipper doesn't have to be up though...

never walked in a store with a pipe lit, but always, when walking on sidewalk in the city....carry a small one in a pocket. Another large bent with NO tobacco in it, in mouth while strolling along. The frantic fan the air, cuff, cuff stuff priceless when I show the pipe totally empty.

I'm not a lunter, since I think the jiggling motion as I walk could hurt some of my pipes with thinner stems (think Beckers, Dunnies, Ruthenbergs). Also, the random air currents outside interfere with the placid smoldering many blends require to optimize flavor. I do puff pretty much every time I'm in my piping/ffishing Subaru. In fact, ever since I started piping while driving, I've become a better and more courteous driver. The times I've been on the streets of Philly, kids are amused and call me Sherlock. I think it's usually promoting our cause to be seen out in public with a pipe.

I do, and quite often. Actually, some of my friends bought their own pipes because they've seen me so often with one, when out drinking and what have you. I only smoke at coffee shops (we still have those where you can smoke) and such though, I like to be sitting down and focused when smoking.
I always have an inviting aromatic in my bag with me, and a cheap pipe, in case someone wants to try. A lot of people enjoy smoking a pipe with me when we're together and I was surprised at how many want to get into it. Almost everyone around here smokes socially anyways, so why not convert them to pipes from cigarettes?

I walked up on the dock platform in San Bernardino puffing my pipe...signs everywhere saying "no smoking" because the Hazmat storage has to be within the view of the dock supervisor...and corporate has cameras zeroed in on everything...nuttin said to me.
There is no way that a smoldering pipe will ignite anything, all of the shipments are sealed and I don't use placarded drums marked flammable as a cork knocker.
There are benefits on having a lock on the pension...I like my job, but I carry Johhny paycheck in my wallet.

We had to replace our dryer today, and when the man came to deliver the new-to-us (used, but working) one, he complimented me on the pipe I was smoking, which was my pre-Republic Peterson bulldog. He said he smokes a pipe occasionally, but doesn't want people to know it. I said he should just be himself and not worry about it, but it seems he's too self-conscious to risk it. Well, it got me to wondering how many of you smoke your pipe in public and if any of you reluctant to do so. I never cared if anybody cared or not, and mostly get compliments when I'm out in public with a pipe. Let's hear how you deal with it. Well, I get the standard " What's in the pipe ? " but many like it also....Little kids usually just stare with their mouth open.

Got to open a show for Johnny right after he got out of prison...I was a little nervous but nobody got hurt. He was great...His brother was on guitar or maybe bass.

I started using tobacco in my youth and I'm old enough to remember smoking cigarettes in the supermarket(!), mall, airport, &c. I only smoked my cob at home, at night, usually in my cups. As I substituted pipes for butts about eight years ago, I was quite self-conscious about pipe smoking in public. I was sort of afraid it looked like a pretentious affectation.
Now I usually have a pipe in my mouth whenever I'm out and about. Few people even notice, though the ones that do have all been positive--the reminds-me-of-Grandpa comments.
What's funny to me about that is that sometimes my wife and I will step out of a concert venue or restaurant and smoke a quick cigarette. Then we get the hand waving, stink face, and faux cough thrown at us. Granted, cigarettes--even good rollies--smell awful.
Admittedly, cramming pulverized tobacco up my nose in a crowd gets some inquisitive looks! I ran an errand last night and I thought the clerk was giving me an odd look. I then met up with my wife at the truck and she asked me to look in the mirror. I had snuff from nose to ear. Oh, well.

I mostly smoke at home and virtually always when doing paperwork. It dulls the distain I have for it. Virtually always when traveling in one of my vehicles alone or with another smoker. Hard to smoke a pipe when fishing but occasionally I do. Cigar with golf. Occasionally have to stop in at my office on weekends to pick something up and will walk in with a lit pipe. My staff knows on Monday morning! Will smoke outside doing yard work. I have no problem walking around outside and smoking, I just don't do too much of it.

Having been disabled for some 26 years and also receiving VA compensation, I seldom not smoke my pipe where it's not prohibited by Indiana's anti-smoking Nazi laws . Not only do I smoke my pipe in public, but unlike many, I smoke my pipe where ever I want in my home. I'm fortunate that my wife likes the smell of my pipes and cigars. I may be a country thing. Unlike many wives, she doesn't think she's the boss. actually neither do I. We try to compromise and come upon decisions together.

Most of my smoking in public occurs in my truck and people do tend to look twice most of the time. It's just not a common site anymore. I used to smoke in the local casinos but they banned pipes and cigars ... so I banned them! 😅 I bet, see'en a chimp smoke a pipe is one thing but, driving too?

I smoke anywhere I can. And also as much as I can! I reckon that "getting it out there", ie smoking in public, is good for our beloved hobby. But at the same time, I think it is just courteous to smoke something that smells "nice" when in the company of non-smokers, even when you are standing 10 paces away from them.
