How many of you like a pot shape pipe? Let's see them if you have 'em. This pre-transition Barling is my favorite of the ones I own.

No pix,but I have several pots. I like the way they change the taste of a blend, compared for instance to a tall, narrow chamber. The market currently under values this shape, so great deals are to be had, especially with old Britwood. I also love the Prince shape, which is kind of a small pot in puffing characteristics.

I had forgotten about my LL Bean pot. I bought this and a pound on their tobacco in 1978(I think). Made by Briarcraft.

Nice looking, and cool nomenclature...their current board would probably be horrified if someone suggested marketing pipes now. Front to back.... Benni Jorgensen, Penthouse. bottom of the barrel for GBD smokes well though, Savinelli, and a Peterson Special..I have a few others hidden away somewhere...

I like the pot shape, in fact I am sort of pot shaped myself. Truthfully, it is one of my favorite smoking shapes. I don't always appreciate their looks, but boy, they sure smoke great. Here's my favorite two: On top a GBD International from London, below is a John Peel by BB&S of London also.

This is my Willard Pot: Glad yours smokes well, I have a Willard pot that is really bad...but even the highest end pipe makers turn out an occasional pipe that just doesn't smoke anything well.

I had a meer lined pot shaped a couple decades ago. It smoked perfectly. A recent meer lined cracked at the bottom of the bowl after five smokes. If I see a non meer lined one that grabs me, I'll grab it. I think the wide bottom really helps the smoke

Round bowls with a little width offer a wider burning surface, which helps bring out more flavor nuances in blends.

My dad smoked pots (as opposed to pot!) almost exclusively, all day every day. He also smoked only a single latakia blend, and I've read that some people think lat blends are best smoked in pots. Not sure if it was a conscious decision on his part or not. It may be that it's just a very serviceable shape, and one of the plainest. My dad was not a very creative thinker or much of an individualist, so it may be that his friends smoked pots so he didn't consider smoking anything else. Other than the send-from-the-left one (a broken Sav Milano de Luxe), they're also all Comoy's. Haven't even cleaned the bottom one yet. IN addition to these, he had one Dublin, one Billiard, one apple, and one bent meer which my mom gave him. None but the meer show anything like the wear of the pots.

I cant speak for anyone else, but as far as I am concerned your dad is right, my Latakia's really develop a great smoke nicely in a larger bowls.

I prefer narrower bowls to wider bowls. However, the 7/8" diameter bowl on my RobE olive wood Apple-Brandy is rather Pot-like.

Two of them are dedicated to lat blends, one to lat-aros, and another to Va-Ors. I haven't noticed that the lats smoke better than the VaOrs, though I should try some side-by-side taste tests one of these days.

No pic's but I have several and agree as to their smoking qualities. Sometimes (much like the Prince shape) a Pot seems to frame and define a smoke like no other.
