So how do you get the sale price to kick in? I put 5 ounces in my cart and it only lowered the price to $2.05 instead of the advertised sale price of $1.61. This has happened the last few times I've tried to purchase from them during a bulk sale.

Give them a call and post your answer here. They are generally very good on the phone and I would like to hear their answer.

I looked for similar prices on SP but last I checked they were not as good. Last time this happened I was willing to pay a few cents extra per ounce in order to avoid making a phone call. That said, I've always had a good experience when I've called P&C. Of course the blend I was interested in is now out of stock at P&C.

If you don't mind paying for it up front, they will ship it when it arrives. I have done that a few times on stock that goes quickly... I'm not always around to check emails for stock notification.

This has happened the last few times I've tried to purchase from them during a bulk sale. That $1.61 seems to be if you buy 4+ oz. www.pipesandcigars.com/p/mcclelland-bulk-mctruffle-pipe-tobacco/1496032/ I would have guessed that both that price and the price for 1-3 oz are 17% off, but the this blend is usually $2.99, so should be $2.48 as opposed to $2.82. But after all, this is P&C we're talking about! And if there's a blend you really like, $1.61 per oz for McC is great. Just looked some more: some blends are $3.32, which is 17% off the usual $4.... and if you buy 4+ oz it goes down to $2.29. Maybe it makes sense to them.
