I managed to get my Unimat lathe and it's table out of the storage container today. Now some serious, precision plastic chips can be made! I need to put a back on the table, probably pegboard, and mount the light. I do have a stock of 1/2" acrylic rod to practice on. When that practice is done, I want to get some 3/4" pen blanks to work on. They come in really neat colors and patterns in addition to the normal black and whatnot. Then... there is some really cool vulcanite rod on ebay. Spendy, but what fun that would be! The lathe on it's stand. And a closer view.

Love that Unimat. I remember when they first came out in the 1960s. Cost a man week's wages back then. Terrific, versatile and very portable. Make some of your own specialized jigs and fixtures and you're good to go.
For turning materials/rods, etc, try:

Have fun.
