I've always had tanks since I was maybe 8 yrs. old...They're a drag when you have to move but I've been in the same house for 17 yrs. Attachments:

Never wanted to deal with the upkeep... I have owned horses, rabbits, parrots, Conures, and Cockatiels, an alligator named Wally, and a rattlesnake named Alice....along with dogs of many varieties. I settled on dogs.
The company my wife worked at had a huge aquarium that was really cool with pricey fish, but the owner had deep pockets to pay someone to take care of them.... pretty cool if you are into it.
Someday, I may try falconry... seems like a cool hobby.

Reading stories like the Herpetologist in Ohio that got killed by her pet Gaboon Viper keeps me from thinking of snakes. How the govt. can let people own them when they won't let me get a pig-tailed macaque I will never know

...having 5 dogs...3 rescues, and 2 pure breeds, if I get another animal I'd like a very small "tea cup" pig...one that won't weigh over 10 lbs. when fully grown...

I had aquariums in college. Pretty cool. Black Mollies are fairly hearty, easy to keep and procreate rapidly; however, you have to separate the young in a little side car cup or they'll be eaten. Good luck with Neons. A two degree room temperature change was all it took to find them all floating on top of the tank.
I could see myself getting back into into it. I always wanted a salt water aquarium but the maintenance.....

We had a great aquarium in our last house. The secret is that the larger the aquarium, the easier it is to keep. It was 110 gallons. Varied around 70 to 100 fish, focusing on cichlids. Found the trick was to put a piece of the eggcrate fluorescent light fixture panel under the gravel to keep them from digging holes. We had it for 12 years before we were no longer looking at it so we gave it away to the guy who refinished our hardwood floors because he really liked it. We had tried smaller tanks before with no luck.

I currently have a 10gal aquarium. Currently have a sucker fishy thing(carl). I have a twin parb platty(sushi-q). Three neon tetras (darryl, darryl, and darryl). Also a black molly (the black dallia). A dalmatian (Lucy brown). All are long past life expectancy. You need to love the hobby and above all... take care of your aquarium.

Had an albino frog with a couple fish...he used to grab the dorsal fin and have the fish pull him along...after him we had small chihuahuas, a tri-color (black, white and tan) and another to keep her company, he was tan and a rescue, later we adopted a tiny male chihuahua found in a dumpster and had several broken bones that had healed improperly...he was the sweetest of all and smart as could be (street smart). He used to spread his food around the bowl so that others could get at it...probably a protective measure learned on the street to keep big dogs from attacking him and going for the food. Then we got MissElli who was a rescue about to be put down because she was an epileptic (we kept her 3 yrs until she couldn't stand up any more)...now we have an older Yorkie-Terrier mix, also a rescue and she is a tiny 4.8 pounds bundle of love. Rescues are the best!

Someday, I may try falconry... seems like a cool hobby. This is a picture of Merlin, a red-tailed hawk still wearing his immature plumage. I flew him for 2 years before turning him loose; he was by far the best bird of my four years of falconry. It's an awful time consuming hobby so I had to put it aside, but I've always thought I'd like to pick it back up, maybe in retirement. They're pretty spectacular critters. As for aquariums, I love them but have only had simple small ones. I can stare at a big aquarium for a long time though!

I love the big proper ones that you see in Chinese restaurants over here. Unless they are well taken care of, they don't look so good, but one that is well looked-after is awesome.
