Big admission here: I always thought (when I was a teen piper) that my problem with burn and ketchup tin notes were from Burly. I hit on Captain Spice and Captain Black as regulars during my pipe smoking periods.
So, when I started my pipe up again this year I was disappointed to see Burly listed in the ingredients of many blends. Well, I was way wrong. I started smoking CH and loved it. Then James (Scrooge) had gifted me some Five Brothers, among other things. I smoked the Five Brothers as he had written on it that it was a fave. Totally blew my mind. Now, still being pretty stupid about tobacco, I looked at the cut and figured it had Virginia in it. Turns out it was all Burly.
If I want Ketchup I have McClelland Top Hat for that. In a blind smell test it would pass for Ketchup, or Catsup to us flower children.
Now, y'all know I love my aros. I seldom mention non-aros as they are not as quirky. Five Brothers is in my regular rotation now. Every time I smoke it I am blown away by how much I love it and how simple it is.

Once we get around to trying the old tried n true drugstore brand standards we realize why they've been around so long. CH, PA, SWR, etc each helped form the market basis from which all other blends prosper. I think one special blend that successfully embodies all of the above is the Edward G. Robinson Pipe Blend... for me it checks all the old boxes, and new. JMHO

Agree on the EGR! I have, however, also absolutely fallen in love with Sir Walter Raleigh. Go figure...

That's great David you like Five Brothers. Like I told you that's my main smoke. Burley plain an simple. I'm not much of a aro man but I'll see what's hidden in the back shelves.

No worries, James. That wasn't a hint. I will be enjoying the stuff you blessed me with (and others) for a long time to come. I've already ordered more Five Brothers. It was a major shift in my TAD. I bring these subjects up because I am enthusiastic about what others have shown me... and grateful

Burley is a fickle beast for me. Some of my favorites have it listed as an ingredient but it never bothers me in those. Others with Burley in it makes me never reach for them again.
