Absolute beauty. That's one thing I really miss about driving a local truck. All the things you find along the way

Charlie, I found the best way to clean the gourd is to use a dry paper towel after each smoke. Otherwise, treat it as you do any meer. Congrats on the deal.

Incredible pipe Charlie. You started in the gourd calabash penthouse for renters' price there. Be interesting to hear your take on how it smokes.

After many smokes, the draft hole in the meer cup will become soft. When that happens, turn the cup upside down on a fire safe surface, and hold a flame to the bottom of the cup until it catches fire. Let it burn out and cool, and the draft hole will be hard again. Though not an actual gourd, that is an amazing find. Congratulations!

Very welcome. You may notice a muting of tobacco flavor for the first several bowls, but once the cooling chamber is saturated with tobacco oils, the flavor will be more pronounced.

A mate of mine a while ago asked me about these mahagony calabashes. It will be interesting to hear what you think.

About 20 years ago I found a used gourd Calabash at a Second Hand store, or as I called them "Junk" store. It was $12. Being that I was out on a "walk", I had to walk back home to get the money. Your's is a lot prettier though. Enjoy it!

A very nice find, Charlie. sidstavros has modified and made several calabashes of various woods and so he'd be a prime person for questions. I have a 1970 Pioneer gourd Calabash that was my grandfather's. Smokes fine but Pioneers all had restrictive draws to them. I drilled out my other Pioneer meer because of it. Being hardwood I don't think you'll have too many problems cleaning the wood inside. The gourd IMO is a nightmare to deal with and fragile.

Thanks guys! The pipe provided a clean, cool smoke, and the Edgeworth burned to a fine white ash...after single bowl, the rim started coloring rose-like, I think that over time it will color quite nicely.
