Hi smokers! I am new and here is my pipe! I admit I was stupid and impatient. Don’t judge ☺ so I tried to smoke bay leaves. It would not light so I put the pipe upside down over a candle I burned part of the rim. Will the pipe still be okay to use? How long can I use it? It’s a really nice pipe if you want more pictures ☺ IF you see on the rim there are some burns near the rim. Later, I got tobacco( I microwaved it to dry it out) and smoked it fast and got smoke everywhere. I liked it and the tobacco burned with glowing embers, was that bad for the pipe? My smoke lasted about 20 min? But I enjoyed it though! Does the pipe look ok? No sun damage? (it might have been stored in a sunny area) Is this a good place to keep my pipes? Thanks for your time.

Slow down, after you think your going slow enough slow down some more. The object is to taste the flavors of the tobacco not produce great plumes of smoke. Your pipe is fine, but really take your time and enjoy the peace and rhythm of just slowly smoking a pipe.
Welcome and enjoy.

is the way I am storing the pipe proper care? thx for your time If you wish to store it in a box is fine, I personally prefer a rack so the moisture evaporates more easily. That is a nice pipe, a Charatan and there well crafted and not cheap. So take care of it and it'll take care of you. Run a cleaner through it after you smoke, maybe even wipe the bowl out with a paper towel if you want and let it rest (dry out) before continuing to smoke more out of it. Of course if you only have a bowl or two a day you should have to rest it but, overnight at tops. And as said before, NO PUFFING, it'll just heat the pipe up and eventually maybe even burn it out. Take is slow, relax and enjoy. Take sips and don't puff away as if to create smoke signals. If it gets too hot to handle set it aside and let it cool, once cooled you can begin again.....slowly.

I see cracks in the bowl how do I fix it. Without having the pipe in my hand I can't tell if this is the beginning of burnout or just some heat cracking of the cake. Either way, if you slow your draw down and not get the bowl hot you should be able to form some cake over this and save the pipe. The scorches on the rim of the bowl may be partially removed by wetting a Q-tip with spit, yes Spit and rub the dark areas on the rim and wipe dry and buff with an old T-shirt or like material. You may want to get a few corn cob pipes to smoke till you've mastered your technique and save the Charatan from further damage.

its not cake its the beginning of burnout I think. Is their a way to save it with i don't know polish or something? do you want more photos? thx If it is indeed the start of burnout I know of only two ways to repair it, others may know more. One, chip out what is damaged and fill with pipe mud (Cigar Ash and spit) Yep, that spit stuff comes in handy when working on pipes. I spit in every chamber when I make one..........just kidding guys and gals. Two, chip out all the damage and fill with Bowl coating, several different concoctions are made I would suggest the one with "Water Glass". Or you could always send it to a reputable pipe repair and they'll fix it right up for ya......for a price of course. Or you might just get lucky and after a good bowl reaming (if you know how to do it properly with the good reamer) it will disappear, of course this may take both fingers and toes crossed.

I would suggest searching out a pipe club and learning from others.... not to be harsh, but that is a pretty rough start. If no pipe club exists in your area, you should check out some trusted websites and videos.

Well here she is! I made a bamboo pipe. Be honest if it sucks. Don't worry about hurting my feelings i want some corncobs but am in a rural area far from a smoke shop. is this a good first pipe? i'll test it out! It looks okay but, I haven't a clue if you can smoke a bamboo pipe like that. I would suggest to purchase some cobs Online maybe at Missouri Meerschaum

I apologize for this long post. I should have made a separate thread. I apologize for annoying everyone. As you know I made a custom pipe out of bamboo. It seems to work pretty well. Short but stable smoke. But I have a few questions on the life of the pipe. First off I see minor peeling and aging of the bamboo Also while making the pipe I accidentally scratched it while sawing it. Is the still FUNCTIONALLY alright? (I got rid of the mites with a pipe cleaner and a wee bit of alcohol for the exterior I put a wee bit of olive oil) Can my custom pipe potentially last longer than a corncob and as long as a regular pipe? Plus did I smoke my pipe properly? What I did was I loaded tobacco and compressed it. But left a small space at the top. I lit it but the tobacco was too moist. I then microwaved it for 2 minutes and let the tobacco cool. I then repeated what I did and packed it with a nail head. The pipe lit and the smoke was pure white! When the bowl felt hot to the touch I stopped smoking. Should I have done the 3 layer method instead? I see ash in the pipe but no cracks like the other pipe Is my pipe ruined? I put a lot of work into building my pipe so I want to take care of it. Thank you very much for your time. I will get those corncobs soon
