Morning all.
I had a whole damn reply typed out yesterday and never hit post. My cold came up and kicked me square in the arse yesterday. Felt like I got run over by an elephant. Got up, took some Advil and went back to sleep for a few more hours. Advil did the trick, broke the fever and I felt human again.
Got my other box of samples in the post yesterday. I now officially have samples coming out of the wazoo. A bunch ordered and a generous box from David to work through as well. For the record... this is actually the part about pipe smoking that I wind up hating.
Loaded up a bowl of LC Natural VA & Burley this morning. My taster is still not working 100%, but this one seems pretty good. Certainly something that could be used as a base to really make some tasty mixtures. Might fit the bill for a go-to all day smoke, though that decision can't be made until I get this cold out of my head.

I spoke earlier about getting a taste for Burley and I got some great recommendations from our own JimInks. While doing some 'windows shopping' for some of these blends, I figured 'why not pack a pipe with the straight Dark Burley blending tobacco I bought from P&C some months back? About now I'm feeling like I could be in one of those commercials for Life Alert. 'I've smoked some Burley and I can't get up' Now I know why this is a 'blending tobacco'. In the words of Elvis "Only fools rush in" haha

Salty Dogs in a blasted Bruce Weaver Dublin with cumberland stem and hippo tooth shank accent. This one was a gift from Mr. Weaver, and being one of my smaller pipes, is a great traveling companion.

I have some Sutliff Mixture #79 in a Missouri Meerschaum Mark Twain bent. A new pipe and fresh tobacco, both arrived in the mail today.
I also have a large mug of strong coffee. Due to the Whiney Tiny dog I was delayed in posting this.

It's a wet and rainy day. Keeping the fresh Sutliff Mixture 79 lit isn't easy. I have the Mixture 79 in an old Missouri Meerschaum which is straight with a black stem. Because they don't put the model name on the pipes, I have no clue as to which it is. What it looked like years ago....
I still have that large mug of strong coffee, needing warming up soon.

This is one of the reasons I now make Five Brothers my official first smoke of the day. No matter what your sinus condition, straight burley does not disappoint.

I started out this morning with SG 2012 Jubilee in a Ukranian pearwood pipe, both thanks to David. I'm breath smoking this pipe, which is pretty damn complicated with a wooden stem you don't want to clench. This pipe is telling me to just smoke about 50 bowls of Burley through it to break it in. It's just browning the bowl about now.

If you bought it in bulk, let it sit out for at least a day, even two will get the moisture off enough to get the burn going after the charring light. Good morning briarpatchers, hope everyone is grounded. There was a time I wanted one tobacco, many many years ago and the best I could get it down to was three. A burley, an aromatic and an English. Now I'm up to a half dozen burleys, at least that a dozen aromatics and even more English blends that are a must have on hand. The one tat has stayed at the top of my list aromatic wise is Optimum and I'm burning some in a Savinelli Onda 111 KS, sipped alongside a fresh ground, brewed, cup of Columbian joe. Have a wonderful day, and enjoy those burns!
