Greetings from Nashville TN! I'm a total newbie pipe smoker, I just ordered my first (estate) pipe off of eBay and I'm here to gather any knowledge that I can. The pipe I bought is a Chacom sandblast billiard, and the gentleman I bought it from recommended that I join this forum. In the past I've enjoyed cigars, but now I'm looking for a different smoking experience, so I'm trying pipes and I'm excited to get into it.
A bit about me, I'm originally from New Orleans (not far from where Perique tobacco is grown.) I make music for a living and travel often to do so. I live with my girlfriend and my cat. I play all things keys-related, rock n' roll is my specialty. I enjoy shooting 35mm film photography, I have a lot of useless knowledge about airplanes, and I'm interested in Native American history which also explains some of my interest in smoking tobacco.
Based on some reviews I read and watched, I am most excited to try Cornell & Diehl Bijou, and Dunhill Dark Flake. Any recommendations or comments on these would be greatly appreciated. I tend to like mid-full body tobacco flavors. Like I said, I'm used to cigars but looking to switch it up, not afraid to try a nice aromatic. Also very interested in trying Perique since it's grown close to home!
Very glad to be here, all the best to everyone out there.

Welcome! Sounds like you want to splurge into the heavy hitters. I backed away from them for now. I am trying to learn the tobaccos individually. I thought I would like straight Virginias, but not really. Turns out I love Burley by itself. Has a nice kick and all around warm fuzzies. Five Brothers for that.

Welcome from Central New Jersey! Great recommendation from the seller of the Chacom. You'll learn a lot here and there are diverse tastes. Great to try all sorts of things in the beginning and begin to narrow down as you follow your interests.
What sort of film you shooting these days. I'm just a hobbyist but I did a lot of Kodachrome in the day. My fav was B&W. Had access to a great darkroom and learned a thing or two. Now it's just digital. Still have my old film cameras. I think there's a Leica in there somewhere. Digital is quick, easy, you can shoot your guts out and it doesn't cost a cent. Back in the film days I thought more. Tried to make sure everything was just right. Especially with darkroom work, I felt I created something, not just took a picture. More time consuming though.
Well, enough about that. Hope you enjoy. Try some Viprati. Great Vaper.

Try some Viprati. Great Vaper. [br Hi! I can't wait to start trying out different tobaccos and blends with the pipe. Thank you for the Viprati recommendation, I will certainly check that out. I have a Nikon FM2 with a 50mm lens. Just a hobbyist. But I, like you, am partial to b&w these days. I like the intimacy of it. My favorite b&w film right now is Ilford XP2, which is made to be processed with C41 so you don't have to send it off to a fancy lab. It might be my imagination but I find that XP2 is a little sharper and a bit more contrast-y than Ilford HP5. I also really love Kodak Portra for its more muted colors. I love Agfa Vista for it's cool green and pink hazy tones as well. I also enjoy finding and shooting expired film. Totally agree with you that it makes you think more before you shoot, which is what I love so much about it. You have to really connect with your surroundings, that mindset has also permeated into my music making as well. I need to get my hands on some Kodachrome to try it out! I bet you were able to get some amazing images with Kodachrome, a Leica, and developing yourself! Very cool. Digital of course has major advantages, especially for photogs doing it for a living. My mom worked extensively in her home-made darkroom when I was little, but sadly my touring schedule doesn't allow for much time to learn those techniques. So i have my local lab or a friend develop my film. Maybe when it all slows down I can take some courses! Thanks again for the welcome and the Viprati recommendation. Looking forward to trying it. Let me know if you decide to pick up that Leica again, and if you have any photos out there that I could see! If you are on Instagram my photo account is @phonophoto and there is a link to my website with more photos there. Cheers!

Welcome to The Briar Patch! It is great to have you here! If you like strong tobaccos, you may want to try some of the Gawith & Hoggarth (G&H) twist tobaccos. Some of them are pretty strong. Also G&H Kendal Kentucky and Dark Bird's Eye are strong.

Yes, welcome to the forums, and greetings from another Mississippi smoker. I'm an old school photographer that still uses b&w film, but I haven't been in my darkroom in a couple of years. (too many jars of tobacco in the way) I've used everything from 35mm half frame to 4x5 and have enjoyed the hobby for over 40 years. I still have many Nikons, Canons, Minoltas, Leicas and Pentax cameras knocking around, plus some old Mamiya TLR stuff, lots of Holgas and a 4x5 Speed Graphic with a few lenses. My darkroom equipment which consists of an Omega B-2 and D-3 enlargers with about 8 lenses are covered with dust. I've sold a lot of equipment in the last couple of years, but I have plenty left. I just need someone to give me a kick in the butt to get going again. Pipes seem to have taken over all my interests lately, but with cooler weather and the leaves off the trees in the future, I hope to get out and take some photos. I still have an unopened 100ft. roll of Tri-X to use but I just can't seem to get motivated.
So happy smoking and shooting! Let us know how you're doing!

I think it's still in the family, which is an old Speedgraphic Press type camera. Mom actually had a Polaroid attachment on that. Instant 4x5 Color. My older brother taught me all about that stuff, but when I got my first (really second) computer, it was an IBM PCjr that I had tricked out with a video and still grabber. That was back before the Wild West Days of the Internet, as I fondly call it. I hope we never get too big for real photography
