This morning I opened a new 8oz tin of Piccadilly the tin date was 4/2010 . The tobacco has darkened considerably over fresh tin. The tobacco's are a mix of ribbons and flakes with a occasional leaf piece. The aroma from the tin is a subdued campfire with a sweet smell. Don't look for fresh mown hay here although this is a Virginia based blend. Onward to victory the pipe is a Sommer Grand Luxe billiard loaded with a scoop and thumb method. The moisture of the tobacco is perfect with just a touch of springiness. The first few puffs hint at was is to come with rich Latakia, Perique, Virginia. The first 1/3 of the bowl is filled with Latakia and emits huge amounts of smoke, the taste is smooth as the Latakia has had proper time to age. Going into the second third I am delighted to find that lemon and dark chocolate along with tell tell signs of Perique as it takes over the show adding a spice to the blend. The last third of the bowl is deeper, dark and musky smell with hints of deep sweetness. The last third was deep dark chocolate, pepper and campfire with red Virginia showing it head. The whole smoke is intense with all the flavors coming and going so each puff yields a little something different to dwell on. I suppose this could be a all day blend but it really a breakfast blend to be slowly enjoyed.

Damn psychoinks, my tobacco has never hinted at what is to come, or said I am now taking over the show by adding chocolate to the campfire; mine only say mmm or ew.

I discovered Piccadilly last Spring. When i smoke it, it's primarily my first pipe. I usually rotate this blend with Chelsea Morning (during the colder months). At first, I struggled to find its particular nuances. Fortunately, I discovered its subtle flavors after a few bowls.

Wolfman to me the Chelsea Morning is just a big step up in the Latakia dept. It would be interesting to get your opinion on the nuances of the both blends.

Now if Sparky could fix my picture link you could see the pipe and the tobacco. I tried but I was never good at following directions.
