Well for me, I like my own pipes more than any of my factory types, except for some of the old Jarls I have, and they were sorta artisan factory.

My favorite pipes are Radices. I consider them to be artisan pipes because they are made in the home of Gigi Radice by him and his 2 sons. A real bargain. I also have artisan pipes by Slowroll, Don Warren, Maddis, Joel Arker, Doug Erwin and early Preben Holm. For the most part they smoke as well or better than the best factory pipes. The difference is aesthetic. The hand feel and visual appeal of a really nice artisan pipe can really elevate the smoke.

I love them all. The same way I can enjoy all styles of music when it's at it's best. In my opinion, Thurmann, who died last year, made a far superior Danish Freehand, or any traditional shape for that matter.
