Today I went to my good but a little weird doctor for a check up.Since I believe in being honest with him when he asked me if I was still smoking my pipe I answered yes..Then he said that it was his job to tell folks about the use of tobacco and that I should consider myself told. The he looked at me and said make your own decision. Here's how I feel about that..I'm 75 years old.I started smoking pipes when I was 29.My heart, lungs and arteries are just fine.Reality says though if i live another 15 years I will be lucky.Since I enjoy smoking my pipes.I plan on doing it until they hang that tag on my toe.Unless something comes up that forces me to quit. Told or not told.

Absolutely. My MD was quite honest with me. Since I didn't start back up till 60 he said I would likely die from something else first. Made me happy. Pissed the wife off

Other than smoking forums, I don't admit to anyone in the healthcare business that I smoke.

Pissed the wife off As a pipe smoking doc who fell back into the habit at age 60 also, I'm glad to hear this. The wife, also in medicine as a nurse practitioner, works for a pulmonary group. Needless to say, she is bombarded with incorrect information continuously. Seems like most in medicine can't and won't make a distinction between cigarettes and pipes/cigars. The latter are calming and lead to a longer existence on this planet. Enjoy folks!

I told my doctor years ago that pipe and cigar smoking is not up for discussion. To his credit he has remained silent on the topic.

Took up pipe smoking when I was 17. I'm 43 now. Doctor's say I have the lungs, heart, and blood of a nonsmoker.

Unfortunately, we are seeing more employers require a nicotine screening as a requirement as a condition of employment.
I cannot say for sure, but I reckon that is part of what takes place also when an employee opts in to a “wellness program” that dangles the carrot of reduced co-pays for those that participate.
Meanwhile, in many states that same employee has state protection for having THC in their system if they are prescribed medical marijuana, which is much worse on the respiratory system from what I have learned.
Welcome to Alice in Wonderland....

I was told by my wound specialist that if I admitted to smoking my insurance company would deny skin grafts on a wound on my leg. Never admit to being a smoker past or present now you have been told.

Welcome to Alice in Wonderland.... Reference? On the part about prescreening employees, do a Google search plenty of stories abound. The rest of it I said, “I can’t say for sure on the wellness part that they check your blood, but in the case of my daughter that works at Go Daddy they asked if she was a tobacco user when she signed up for it.

No, just some evidence that THC is worse for the respiratory system than tobacco.

Anecdotally, my sis in law has never smoked cigarettes, but she has smoked weed daily since at least 1980, and she coughs up lung biscuits all the time. And there is this: abcnews.go.com/Health/Healthday/story?id=4508121The pro weed sites all pretty much tell you that any study that says so is bogus. In my earlier post I meant a comparison of a non inhaling tobacco pipe smoker versus an inhaling weed smoker.

Hey, I'm not trying to give you a hard time.
Clearly not inhaling smoke is healthier than inhaling.
Humans don't die from cannabis, but they do from tobacco.

It's been proven time and time again already that inundating the human body with cannabis smoking or oils, extracts etc is absolutely not deadly or cancerous, but in fact anti-cancerous. The human body's metabolic system is an endocannabinoid system and so cannabinoids are being found to regenerate cell growth and kill cancerous growth. In the 90's some genius came up with a diet pills program that cut out the bodies internal cannabinoids and it had very detrimental health effects. No, it's not some hippy psuedoscience and yes, it has been proven by multiple researchers, organizations and even the very FDA.
The cat has been out of the bag for years that generations since the 1930's we're completely lied to about cannabis. Sure, it has side effects but it's proven safer than water. Safer than Tylenol, safer than anything else literally, in the world.

Went through about 16 lbs between 1967 and 1988 with no ill effects other than a headache and I minor drop in IQ. Still qualified for Mensa.

I can be willfully dense too . . . . and to totally run this thread off the rails, one of my favorite Columbo episodes is when he visits/investigates his local Mensa Society.

I was supposed to go to a different school when I was a kid, but the principal in a very strict Lutheran school convinced my parents to not separate twins. So, I wound up opting for class clown instead.
Would be funny, but it's true

Nothing could be as shockingly idiotic as a real Mensa meeting. I went to one meet and greet. Socially inept drunks telling bad jokes and not realizing that no one was listening. A massive embarrassment.

This thread is starting to remind me of another pipe website full of smart arse people that I find deplorable. Maybe it is because they have started to wonder over here in search of new audience to torment. YMMV
