One of the best movies ever made, especially for pipe smokers. Good choice for viewing on St. Pat's Day.

Also the fight scene is the best, and probably longest, ever in the movies.

Ms. O Hara never looked more beautiful and you can believe that she has her say in the house. I like strong feisty women and she was a fine example her entire life.

I'll bet I've seen The Quiet Man more than a dozen times. I never tire of it. Think I'll start a pipe smoking and movies thread.

A four time a year classic for me. For my wife...more than four times.
Just a plain old perfect movie, on every level.

Will have to disagree with "Best Movie ever Made", "The Searchers" and "The man who shot Liberty Valance" are the Best Movies John ever made. IMHO

They do not come any finer than John Ford's "Irish Rose."
She was a hoot in "Our Man in Havana".

I have to add "They Were Expendable" to the list along with "In Harm's Way" and "Stagecoach". The Duke did not make many films which were not great.

Multiple viewings here as well. Speaking of Pipes in movies, Ford's : She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, has about 1/4 of the cast puffing away.

Agree another great movie and not to mention "Horse Soldiers" also. The pairing of William Holden and JW worked well. One of my favorite stories from the War Between the States. John Ford touched upon the real events of Grierson's Raid and the cadets of VMI at New Market, VA. While they were unrelated in fact, it made for a great movie. I saw this movie for the first time as a boy and have watched it many time since. You just got to love Constance Towers. "Thigh or breast, Colonel?" One of Hoot Gibson's last movies as "Sergeant Brown". Got a real kick out of the scene with Russel Simpson as "Sheriff Goodbody" with his prisoners played by Strother Martin and Denver Pyle. Other stock actors from Ford's company- Carleton Young as "Colonel Miles" at LaGrange, dignified in defeat, and Hank Worden as "The Deacon". Ken Curtis as "Wilkie", the scout. Basil Ruysdael as the Reverend and Commandant of the military academy. He also played a "Holy Joe" in Ford's film, "The Last Hurrah". Jack Pennick, a Ford regular and adviser on marching, drill, and uniforms, as Sergeant Major Mitchell, too old to ride. Willis Bouchet, great as always, as the politician turned Colonel with dreams of being Governor or President. Yes, it is a favorite of mine.

Hank Warden has always been a favorite of mine starting with his portrayal of ole Mose in the Searchers wanting only a rocking chair. But, you forgot one....Ben Johnson another of Ford's family as Sargent Tyree in two JW films and several others with JW. He too was a favorite of mine and was a real cowboy outside Hollywood. It's seems all the greats are gone now and were left with just a handful of good actors and good movies.

Love The Quiet Man! As Bary Fitzgerald says when eyeing the collapsed bed, "Homeric!".
