My wife and I have lived here for 26 years. We were using "Bullitin Boards" before the internet was born.We had Procomm for awhile and then tried a few others like Netcom and such. But when everyone went to DSL we got left out.For the past eight years all we could get was Wildblue and then Exede. Not bad service but we have been limited by bandwidth.First it was 8 gig on a rolling 30 day period, which means that on any given day if you have gone over 8 gig for the 29 days prior they slow you down to about 1200 baud. Then with Exede it was 10 gig on a set 30 day interval. We had just changed plans to allow us 25 gig when we were blessed by a finacial gift from my mother in law.Today we had Airosurf come out,and after a site survey, they installed the antena and now I pay for speed not bandwidth.Same price but I don't have to check my usage before watching the videos that you guys and gals are sharing.

Congrats. I was on in the Stone Age of the Net, using Archie (not the comic), the Bulletin Boards, FTP. Prodigy and AOL were about the only game, then as you say, Netcom. The coming end of Win 3.1 was the beginning of the Wild West Days, chat rooms, web pages, graphic interface. I learned computers in my spare time between sweeping the floors at work. Life is good. Welcome to 2017

I don't have a clue what you're talking about but it sounds like you got to where you want to be and I'm all for that. Enjoy your new freedom.

We live out in the sticks, the closest town to us doesn't have DSL,but they do have cable. My choices have been Satalite or nothing, until now.So yes,I got to a place I can be confortable at.

Yeah, I hear you.
I have always lived out in the burbs, but way out on the fringe, so I have only had broadband for about three years out of the last 20. The rest of the time, I had dialup or connections to rural networks.
But right now, I'm rocking about 2 gigas. Woohoo!

Sounds like you are talking about Fixed Wireless. If you go to the Middle of Nowhere take a right and go another 3 miles you come to my place. I had DSL with ATT, whenever they deigned to keep it up. We'd get a storm and electric would be out 3 hours. DSL out 10 days. Then a couple of companies decided to deploy Fixed Wireless. No storm interruptions, no contract no limits. While it is not broadband speed, it is faster than ATT and more reliable. But spendy compared to DSL and cable, but there are costs associated with living in God's country.
In some localities the Electric Membership Co-ops doing Fiber to The Home.
So there is hope for us country bumpkins.

Airosurf is a microwave type set up,line of sight and all that. The closest "city " to me doesnt have ATT DSL,they never upgraded the switches. They do have cable service though,so they can get better internet speeds.Out where I'm at we can't get cable, not enough population density.A half mile north and I would be on another city's switches and I could get ATT.So waiting on the microwave systems to expand has finally paid off.My Co-Op has an ISP service but it will be years before they get out to where I'm at.If you know anything about Oklahoma,I used to joke,My electricity comes from Stillwater,my mail from Guthrie, my phone from Arcadia, and my water straight up.At least I can count on my water.
