Good evening, all.
So in planning my next pipe acquisition, I am considering picking up a Danish style pipe- More specifically, a Ben Wade. I have seen quite a few in my price range and I have heard the brand spoken of highly in forums, so they seem like a good bet.
My question is about the tenon/mortise area of Danish style pipes. I tend to smoke hands-free- I wouldn't say I clench, but I angle the bit into the old over-bite and it kind of rests using a bottom bicuspid as a fulcrum. I am worried I'd do this and take my hands away to type and the tenon would pop out of the mortise and my shiny new pipe would fall to the ground. Are they generally a snug fit and not something to worry about? Should I just stick to small pipes and or bent pipes that nest safely in my beard?
Thanks,
Justin

Has never happened to me nor have I heard of it. A nice bent will rest against your chin when typing and employing the grip you describe, so I say go for it.

I've had these Ben Wades for 45 years and never a problem.

John, I think 45 years of service is about a glowing vote of confidence as I could have hoped for. Very handsome pipes I might add. I am particularly partial to the pipe in the back. Thank you for sharing.

The pie in the back is labeled Walnut. Nice smoker as well.

The pie in the back is labeled Walnut. Nice smoker as well. The grain on it is spectacular.
