I saw some interesting clickbait: www.cookinglight.com/syndication/why-brown-liquor-gives-you-worst-hangover?utm_source=cookinglight.com&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=well-done&utm_content=20171012Anyone have opinions on which whisk(e)ys are better for the morning after? I've been a Scotch drinker for a long time, ever since a sales manager gave me tips on how to hang with hard drinking clients without seeming like a putz. I am a wimp with many things, nic and alcohol being two of the big ones. A quarter shot of a single malt is enough for me as a nightcap. His suggestion was to drink Scotch and water - just one that you can nurse all evening, while the other party puts a whole bottle away. The S&w looks like a drink, since it has some color. His thought was that Scotch tends to produce little hangover since it's highly distilled. I love the taste of bourbon, but it made me achy the next day. Then someone told me I wasn't drinking distilled enough bourbon and should switch to Maker's Mark. Lately I've been experimenting with ryes and Irish, looking for ones that have been distilled more than once. hples

Well, finally topic with which I am very familiar. I would have loved to participate in that study. While the study says that drinking water doesn't alter the affects of any spirit I tend to disagree. I do believe that the higher the quality the less pain you'll feel in the morning. I had a salesman who was a huge drinker and he always took 2 aspirin before going to bed after an evening of imbibing. I tried it and it did seem to lessen the effects. The other alternative is to stay drunk which is not a good way to go.

A certain beer brand gives me a slight headache while drinking it. So now if I do drink beer, it's someone else's.

In the many years of drinking I did in the past of everything thinkable I rarely got a hangover. Although I did find after quitting 3 times, when I went back to drinking I started getting them and every time I quit and started again, they got worse till they were debilitating. Glad it only took me 3 times to quit.

The impurities in cheap liquor cause worse hangovers than in the good stuff. However, it's overall dehydration that is the main culprit. Drinking water along with or in between drinks definitely helps.

As a retired professional alcoholic stick with one drink and avoid those sugary concoctions.

Having tended bar and having been an awful drunk I learned a little. I will impart some genuine wisdom. Please take notes. I used to hate Scotch. I was always Kentucky Whiskey, with a foray into Canadian once in a while. I walked into my fave bar at Polynesian World and there was Jack, looking good as ever. Me: Jack, I saw you last night. You were worse off than I was. Jack: Rusty Nail, David. Tae, make David a Rusty Nail. Rusty Nails are about half Scotch and Half Drambuie over ice. The first one evens your keel and unshivers your timbers. The second one turns you into a salesman: Hey, Jack. I feel great. Let's do it all again! When I later tended bar at Poly World to help the owner, I sold many a Rusty Nail on Saturday morn to the Friday Night crowd. Should you not believe me, stick to beer and tomato juice. That works somewhat well.

The best hangover cure I ever experienced came from a paramedic that I lived with. After an exceptionally heavy weekend of drinking, he hooked me up with a "Banana Bag" IV Fluid drip. While not readily available to the masses ... it can't be beat!

After a hard night's drinking....still feeling woozy in the morning thinking that chugging milk is a good idea. Instant cottage cheese that feels and tastes like it is being expelled from a skunks rectum.....But I wouldn't know, never been there.

Avoid cheap brown liquors. Drink plenty of fluids with whatever your chosen poison. Stick with one poison. Eat before and during your drinking.
If you still end up with a hangover, keep drinking water. If you drank a LOT of booze to get where are, have some Gatorade and B-complex. Ginger can soothe the belly. Painful as it might be, light exercise can help.

A shot of apple cider vinegar will detox your innards. Then hit the H20, the colder the better, until it goes away.
